Show Lakeside Review, Wednesday, August 5, 1987 Eat girl's job is fun, hazardous LYNDIA GRAHAM Lakeside Review correspondent LAYTON Whats in baseball for the bat boy? A great deal of fun, according to Corrinne Battle. Corrinne isnt the bat boy, but the bat girl for the Layton Orioles, of the citys recreational baseball program. Corrinne is the eight-yeold daughter of Yasmin and Gerald Battle of Layton. She will be a third grade student at Lincoln Elementary in the fall and is on the team, the Lincoln girls ar T-b- all Linx. When her brother joined the Orioles, wanted to be a part asked the coach what Marland Corrinee of it. She she could do to help out the team and without hesitation he assigned her the task of bat girl. Photo by Lyndia Graham Eight-yeold bat girl Corrine Battle gathers up the equipment for the Layton Orioles after one of the teams games. ar 1 When asked what her job description entailed Corrinne replied, after they hit the ball you go get the bat and take it back. It sounds simple enough but Corrinne said there is a little more to it. For instance, she has to gather up all of the bats, balls and batting helmets after the game and be certain they are securely placed in a canvas bag that is nearly as big as she is. She does get to pass out treats too, which is sometimes the best part of the game. But, being bat girl is not all fun and its not without its hazards. Even though she isnt on the field worrying about fly balls or bruised legs from sliding into second base she does face threats from the game. Its the bats, she sighed. They (the team members) throw them at my toes. But sore toes and all she followed the team right through the playoffs. At the end of the last game she got a little surprise from one of the coaches.
