Show Lakeside Review, Wednesday, August 5, 1987 hr Davis residents air concerns FARMINGTON The Davis County Commission held its first of what is hoped to be a long series of public forums for area residents. County Commissioner Harold Tippetts said the commission scheduled the forum, held last Wednesday night in the commission chambers, to gain input and communicate with county residents. Tippetts, who suggested the open agenda meetings be held, said he believed the Davis County forum was a matter of communication. Were (county government) trying to communicate," he said. We feel the public needs to know more about their government. Tippetts said he also believed the meetings were needed for the commissioners to get input from residents on their concerns. He said he felt this would avoid situations when action is taken by county government and the commission only hears the citizens reaction. Concerns raised by the room-fu- ll of residents during the first scheduled forum meeting ranged from providing safety signs where TORO SUMMER SALE State Licensed Similar Savings On All Models DD's Reg. 353.35 NOW ONLY County. However, the main concern dealt with taxes and the assessment of taxes, Tippetts said. In responding to the residents concerns, the commissioners told the group the recent tax increase was and no decision for the increase was made on the county level. Tippetts said it was a matter of county government officials taking the heat for the decisions being made on the state level. However, to provide more information to the general public regarding the countys collection of taxes, Tippetts said another forum would be scheduled for the end of August with tax matters to be addressed. Were happy to schedule the forums as frequently as they are needed, Tippetts said. City Councilwoman Joanne Hansen said the city is often approached by Scouts who need ideas for Eagle projects and in the past they have tried to offer suggestions of projects that could be done to help the community. But in some instances the city has been abused. Councilman City Steven Weller said some of the projects have been abandoned before they were finished. He said the boys who wind up involved are city employees who end up completing the job. He said many Scouts do a good job and benefit the city but those who dont want to take on a suggested city project should not commit to do it. Hansen said Scouts need to be aware of the citys feelings and be willing to complete their projects or go elsewhere for ideas. to have egg hunt, after all Clinton Kiwanis CLINTON members, all five of them, have agreed to purchase or provide 120 Easter eggs for the annual city hunt next spring. The city had to look at other options for the annual hunt due to a lack of funds in the city budget. The Kiwanis agreed to buy the eggs if they could get some help in coloring the eggs and said they could not provide prizes, accord ing to Kiwanis and City Council member Dennis Simonsen. He asked the city to use the recreation department resources to help with the egg dying and said he hopes the ladies auxiliary of the Fire Department would also offer a hand in the project. He said because of the number of Kiwanis members and the several projects they were involved with in the community, they could not take care of the entire project themselves.
