Rainer Kolb, Snowbasin - general manager, announced July 29 the replacement of the Becker and Porcupine chairlifts at Snowbasin ski ;area, 17 miles east of Og- - den. The Becker lift has been T and Porcupine will be re- -; placed with the Swiss made t Stadeli Triple Chairlift, capable of carrying 1,800 per hour. This will : increase the uphill capacity ;by 42 percent, bringing ; Snowbasins total to 7,500 - skiers per hour. - Actually, with the in- -l creased lengths of the lifts, I the total lift capacity has ; been increased by 75 per- cent. The Becker lift former-- ly accommodated 950 skiers ' per hour. ; The lift construction pres- ently underway will be completed before the 1986-8- 7 season, which will begin I when the resort receives ad-- l equate snow. r The Becker lift has dou- bled its present length to 15,626 feet and rises 1,251 Ifeet. The unloading platform is a Condo Ridge, giving excellent access to the Middle Bowl lift. This I will provide an additional route to the upper moun-- ; tain besides the Wildcat lift. This replacement chair also gives us direct access to the lower part of Strawberry, said Kolb. We will be making a new trail down Willow Springs, and Sunshine Bowl will be accessible from the top of the Becker Chair, he added. The Porcupine lift will be one third longer, stretching 6,338 feet in length, with a '1,510 feet vertical climb. The loading station will move closer to the base facilities. The new Becker and Porcupine lifts are engineered to include two extra drives which will make it possible to operate them at full capacity in the event of any power outages. The same auxiliary drives are being added to the Middle Bowl lift, so that it, too, will be operational in the event of a power failure.
