Meanwhile in Region 1, Clearfield just edged out Weber 0 in a double overtime win and winless Layton fell victim to the option offense of Box Elder. 21-2- Davis 35, Wildcats 14 For the first time 19-1- 40-ya- rd Eld-rach- er up-fro- nt of Clawson, Rody Meacham, Todd Marriott and Steve Pearson. in five weeks of playing football, Davis was the team making mistakes early in the game and, to an extent. Woods Cross was the team capitalizing on errors. They got some things to happen to us that we have had happen to the teams weve played, Davis coach Jim Dickson said. Im just glad our kids didnt get discouraged and ease up or anything. I was proud of how our kids came back from adversity you never know how kids will take adversity until it happens and I thought we came through well, The adversity Dickson referred to began with the opening kickoff when Woods Cross recovered its own onsidc kick, and didn't end until the last play of the first half when Davis took the lead for 4 when Davis quargood at terback Casey Lloyd hit tight end Roger Clawson in the end zone on a desperation pass play. Woods Cross coach Larry said his team played well, but his offensive line was beaten defenders by the Davis Dickson said. We played well in spots, but made a mental error on the last play of the first half and we made numerous mental errors in the second half, Eldracher said. To start the game the Wildcats recovered an onside kick to start the game and had to punt after three downs, but the punt plus the return netted Davis its first possession inside its own we 20-ya- rd line. The Darts then, in typical Davis fashion, got its double wing running smoothly and ran the ball 82 yards for a score with 10:20 remaining in the first It looked like it was back to business as usual for the Darts after a shaky opening play. But Woods Cross wasnt finished yet. After the kick-oWoods Cross was again held on downs and ff forced to punt, but on the first play of Davis second possession quarterback Casey Lloyd overthrew his receiver and Woods Cross defensive back Kevin hauled in the pass for his third interception in as many Culli-mo- games. Review Correspondent ' WASHINGTON TERRACE A football team off to an 5 start could be forgiven, if they were just a little discouraged, but the Roy Royals seem to be a team that is on the verge of breaking into the win column soon. Indeed, the last two weeks the Royals had good efforts against Region opponents, but played just bad enough to lose. The lat2 est, a setback, came last the hands of their bigat Friday gest rival, the Bonneville Lakers. As has been the pattern in each of the five games the Royals fell behind eary in the game, then had to play catch up for the second half. But Roy did show some spark by mounting two textbook drives for touchdowns, which has not exactly been a Royal trademark so far this year. Im getting less and less happy with good play on occasions, said Royal head coach Fred Thompson. But we used a lot of different people and there were some things that were fun. We were able to go the length of the -- 0-- 1 21-1- 80-ya- rd , field twice against a good team with just one quarterback sack. But field position was our enemy and we got down 14 points early, Thompson continued. Its like . a basketball team getting down by 20 points. You just cant get the points back fast enough to win. The Royals were ultimately victim to the big play. The most unfortunate break of the game came in the third quarter when a bad snap on a Roy punt gave the Lakers the ball on the Royal. 20. It took just one play, Jason Shaw through the middle for the score. The touchdown was the result of three breakdowns, Thompson recalled. The offense, the special teams and then the defense went out still worried about the turnover. But even after that I thought we could get back in the game. We had some momentum but we couldnt stop their two. big runners. Late in the final period, Dave Tafoya engineered a last scoring drive, but the ensuing onside kick icsro"6 401 --V P15580R13 was caught solidly by the Lakers, who then had no trouble running out the final seconds. The Royals now move on to face Layton this Friday, another ' team. With both teams still looking for their first win, Thompson expects an interesting game. I think they ought to televise it, he said. Sometimes a game is more interesting between than We are similar teams, Thompson added. They play well against the run, but have been scored on through the air.
