He had spent the entire afternoon in the company of the tourism committee of the chamber, visiting and photographing various sites for use in forthcoming brochures. Commissioner Stone felt this could more properly be answered by Commissioner Thorn. Roy Broadbent, chairman of the Core Committee introduced John Call and Ab Christensen of Architects and Planners Alliance who presented the proposed downtown development. Ab. Christensen had an elaborate slide presentation followed by a question and answer session which resolved many of the questions about the changes contemplated for downtown Payson. The Core Committee met Fridaymorn-in- g and voted to proceed with the final plans and specifications for the downtown development and will now wait for the plans from the engineers and architects. These should be available within several weeks, for the perusal of everyone. For those who were present at the meeting and saw some of the imaginative ideas, they must now be patient and await the actual changes as they occur downtown. However, the proposed beautification of downtown Payson certainly will justify the mote chosen for the project, Payson Changes Pace. Payson will be shifting into high gear with a magnificent new shopping center right in the heart of the most beautiful residential setting in Utah. Merchants and property holders certainly deserve commendations for the farsighted vision that they are showing in this new direction. Perhaps no other city in Utah has the capacity for this type of development, because of the narrow street and the fact our main street is not a state highway, as are most of the Utah cities. To the Core Committee, the chairman Roy Boradbent and all the property owners and merchants who are dedicated to this improvement of Payson, our congratulations on this great forward step.
