in Delta at- Snow Geese in abundance for Unique Festival Over 1000 people some from as far away as Texas and Arizona attended the annual Snow Goose Festival held over the weekend in Delta This is the only festival of its kind in the United States The visitors enjoyed the spectatular sight of thousands of magnificant Snow Geese enjoying the Gunnison Bend Reservoir and flying to fields to feed Also WWIi included in the entertainment were Reese Stein KUTV2 sportscaster addressing the group Tracy Avirary who brought raptors for an educational presentation and Division of Wildlife Resourses swered questions and provided educational matenal Held in conjunction with the festival was an Arts and Crafts Fair at the Millard Wesley Thomas Grand Prize winner of the Art Work Contest He is a student of Delta South Elementary County Fairgrounds photography and art contests and the Quilt Guild presented an exhibit The festival was sponsored by the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce and the Division of division tournament continued Friday March 2 where Millard played Beaver in the Millard jumped out to a lead in the first quarter where all five Millard starters scored Beaver battled back the second quarter when Millard went cold from the field Beaver was up 8 points at hlftime The second half was a -- 'Settle Millard owned a lead With 38 seconds left in the game Beaver’s Matt Albrecht hit a with 8 seconds remaining to put Beaver up Millard came down and missed a shot Beaver got the rebound and Millard had to foul Beaver missed the front end of a 1941 Church witnessed Japanese forces when Naval Gov George McMillin signed the surrender of Guam to the Japanese “It was a very sad moment" Church Part The Utah Public Service Commission (PSC) has scheduled public hearings March 6 and 7 to accept testimony from Questar Gas Co and to receive comments from Utah residents about recent gas requests The first hearing will be held March 6 2001 at 5 pm at the PSC’s main office at the Heber citizens of Millard County would be lected to sit on the trial of defendant Robert Dean Callahan 4 District Judge Guy R Bumingham was computer selected from a pool of judges which are experts in criminal trials Judge Bumingham asked numerous questions to help determine jury selection Five women and three men were selected Callahan was charged with one count of second degree felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle This charge carries a punishment of to 15 years in the state prison and a $10000 maximum fine Prosecuting Attorney Dexter Anderson explained to the jury that the person who stole the vehicle is currently in prison Russell Jacob was convicted and sentenced to to 15 years 7 2000 for stealing the in prison on Aug vehicle Anderson said the issue with this case is Callahan was charged with “knowing” that the vehicle was stolen not actually stealing it whereas under Utah Law this makes him a vehicle thief Anderson said Callahan intended to use the transmission in the stolen vehicle to replace the transmission in his truck Anderson called local business man Allen Roper to the stand and established the fact that the stolen vehicle was Ropers 1977 blue pickup used by him and his truck by her cabin could not be a witness at the trial because of a broken ankle Judge Bumingham told the jury that a Stipulation was to be considered as evidence Anderson said in brief Walker owned the cabin found the blue truck and called the police Deputy Sheriff Scott L Cony testified that he was dispatched to the cabin Jun 30 00 and when he surveyed the scene immediately called for an expert crime scene investigator Deputy David William “Bill" Jackson The scene was investigated photos taken and a tow truck rived to remove the vehicle The truck was taken to the jail and put in a sallyport which is a secure area and investigated for finger prints none were found Anderson called witnesses to the stand to establish the fact that the truck was at Callahan "s house Chene Paxton who was living with Callahan at the time testified that when Jacob drove the truck into the drive way she knew immediately that the truck was stolen Paxton said she told Callahan in no uncertain terms to get Jacob and the truck out of there that they had too much to loose and if he did not she would leave Paxton said she told Callahan not to drive north of town and pick Jacob up Paxton also testified that Callahan did not go and pick up Jacob because Callahan was with her all night During her testimony she said that Callahan is currently in prison Callahan was sentenced to prison on a wAwa Robert Dean Russell Jacob Callahan Oct 3 00 being convicted of one count of a class three felony - Aggravated Domestic Assault and one count of misdemeanor A - Violation of release on a Domestic Assault Russell Jacob testified that he was living off and on with Callahan and Paxton because he was released from prison in Arizona May 00 (theft of vehicle) did not have a job and did not have any money Jacob said that he wanted to pay Callahan back for his kindness and dec ided to find a automatic transmission to replace the problem ridden automatic transmission in Callahan"s truck Jacob testified that he stole the truck (keys left in the ignition) drove the vehicle to Callahun'’s house on Canyon Road and parked it for a short while then drove the vehicle about 6 miles north west from Fillmore up Cedar Mountain and parked it near a cabin Jacob abandoned the truck walked to the main dirt road and was picked up by Callahan Jacob said that during the return trip that Callahan did not know the blue
