Show irTst Mard County Chronicle Prepress January 17 1931 Pace 5 COMMUNITY EVENTS Search for lost lion hunters President Millard Fillmore Library Hunter 25 Souti By Gwen Librarian Great Show What a great lime we had at the Antique Show held in honor of Millard Fillmore on Tuesday Jan 8 at the brary The Singing Sixth Graders entertained enthusiastically under the direction of Kaye Slarley and accompanied by Kirby Giles anOne hunched and tiques were displayed en of them on the “Whatzit?" table Children were encouraged to try their luck at identification of these old tools The winner was Challis Limburg with a score of 9 out of 10 Pat Jensen brought among other things an old phonograph with recording of a waltz The audience got a lot of fun out of that especially the kids Antiques were loaned by library board members: Pat Jensen Doris Rasmussen Suzanne Limburg LorTaine Stewart Zola Beck strand and Cathy Jolley and by Gwendolyn Rowley Gwen Hunter Oleve Robison Helen Win get Mary Sweeting Pat Iverson Audrey Quigley and Carol Wise The Exhibit was held over until the night of the 14th to accommodate patrons who were unable to attend on Jan 8 Hostesses in Costume were: Doris Rasmussen Pat Jensen Lorraine Ste- - the pest six weeks to help pay for a bone marrow transplant needed to save the boy’s Efc In conjunction with the fund raising effort Provo High School has declared January as Shawn Stoneman Month Volunteers raised $2853306 as of January 8 for the Robert Shawn Stoneman Trust Fund The funds were raised through community dinners school activities collection cans and booths suctions and personal donations by individuals and businesses In one particular fund raising "miracle" a family of seven appeared at the Stoneman home on Christmas Eve to sing s carol and present s gift to Shawn The gift was a $1000 cashiers check toward Shawn's operation The family then left without identifying themselves Local businesses have donated a few thousand dollars as have individuals through collection cans placed throughout Utah Valley Even Provo's policemen pooled their resources and made a large donation Early on the morning of January 2 the East Millard Sheriff s Posse was called out to search for two bon hunters that failed to return the previous night As the hunters had not told anyone where they were going it w as difficult to know where to begin the search Commander DeLyle Beckstrand and Deputy Garth White who were manning the command vehicle decided to initiate the search in the area of Dog Valley and work north It was then reported that similar vehicle to the hunters was seen in the vicinity of Scipio Pass about noon the day before Tito search was changed to the north end of the county and worked south A grid pattern was laid out on a map thus enabling the eastern part of the county to Four airbe searched systematically craft were used along with 24 posse members 11 of those from the West Millard Posse As the likely whereabouts remained unknown searches of the Cncket Mtns and Notch Peak were begun later in the day Around 2:30 pm the hunters after walking all night and a good part of the day were picked up at the mouth of Com Creek Canyon by posse members Sheriff
