Show USU offers Folklore Class What do Dutch Oven cooking the tooth fairy and ethnic jokes have in common? They are all considered folklore the informal expressions and activities that help shape our lives A summer school course covering American folklore will be offered by Utah State University Delta Center beginning Wednesday June 22 Topics include pioneer foods The Great Basin Horse Show will be held on Saturday and only Saturday s June 18 at the Myers’ Arena will begin at 8:00 am and first call will be at 9:00 am Entry is open all day but each class closes after first call Entry fee is S500 per class up to a $2000 maximum per person Pat Thomas is director of the show and L Duane Haskell will be the judge Classes are: AH 1988 colts 2 family memories and Fourth of July traditions with an emphasis of folkore as an active ingredient in our own lives The instructor Bob King teaches folklore for Utah State University around the state He has a weakness for traditional Western American foods which will be sampled through the summer This class can be used for teacher recertification upper level Humanities and those who have an interest in American Folklore Registration can be completed by contacting Jill Drofcbay USU Coordinator at or Join Millard County “Teacher of the Year” by Dawn Carder The Millard County Board of Education formally presented the annual “Teacher of the Year” award to Tom Judd Chairman of the Science Department at Delta High School The presentation was made on Wednesday June 8 1988 As the recipient Mr Judd will represent Millard County in the state competition to be held in the fall The state winner then represents Utah in national competition Within the local school district the award rotates from school to school This year it was Delta High’s turn and the faculty selected Tom Judd According to Mr Judd “I thought it (the award) should have gone to a good teacher!
