Petersen’s Service has only been in its present location 279 East Main Street in Delta for about one year but Sherm Petersen is in town Having managed the Conoco Station for four years he earned a and many of his good reputation customers have simply followed him to the new spot A variety of services are offered but according to Sherm the job he most enjoys is his specialty-fro- nt end alignments A native of California Sherm has spent at least half of his life in Delta Following graduation from Delta High School he moved to Nevada and did fencing for his uncle for a period of time Next he worked for the railroad before attending Snow College in Ephraim From college Sherm returned to California and went to work for the Goodyear Company He did inventory and shipping and was recapping scheduled to become a store manager when he was drafted into the Army Sherm was sent to Vietnam and there he served as a medic for two years Returning to the states Sherm decided to stay in Los Angeles “I had been shot up and was in bad shape” he remembered ‘‘My brother owned a station in LA and went to work for him I stayed there for about eight years” It was in LA that Sherm attended Los Angeles Trade Tech and specialized in front end alignments Moving from California he went to Moab and set up shop Over a period of six years a Texaco he had three stations-fir- st then he leased an then a Conoco Amoco station and converted it to Shell Along the way Sherm bought a truck and was hauling soda ash and another truck lime Unfortunately skidded on ice caused a bad accident and Sherm suffered both a broken neck and a broken back The injuries coupled with the end of the uranium boom caused Sherm to come back to Delta with his family Once well enough to work again Sherm took a job with Ames Construction at 1PP After five months the work was completed and it was time to move on to bigger and better things Sherm leased the Conoco Station providing much the same services as he now does When the rent became too high he decided that he would find a he did That new location was about a year ago In the new spot just about any automotive job is done by Sherm or his Miss Liberty Pageant Sherm Dawn Carder Once again the talented Sherry Lewis directing local actors and actresses in Damn Yankees” the production which will be presented at Delta High School on June 23 24 and 25 Performances will begin at 8 p m and tickets are $300 each The director has many credits to her name Sherry has performed in several both stage professional productions and film in Salt Lake City and she has is David delighted Millard County residents with local performances and directing Not only has she directed Delta theater Sherry directed the Miss Millard County Pageant for many years She and her husband Leon own Leon’s Custom Drapes They have three children and five grandchildren Kirk Lewis son of Sheiry and Leon also has numerous acting credits both in Salt Lake City and in the Delta area Most recently he was the star in last summer’s and production “Guys Dolls” and he entertains locally lor clubs and civic organizations with his singing and playing Kirk a salesman and his wife Ellen have three children Singing has always been a major part of Glenda Oito’s life She began singing m a church choir and later became involved in musical theater a “big love” Glenda has performed three times in “Oklahoma” twice in ‘The Sound of Music” “Guys and Dolls” and the “Mikado” Locally she sings with the Bluenotes Glenda has a degree m elementary education she does a lot of substitute teaching at Delta North Elementary School and she has served on the West Millard Cultural Council Board for five years She and her husband John an engineer at Brush Wellman have two and Kevin The Ottos are six year residents of Delta Originally from Estes Park Colorado they have lived in Texas New Mexico and Wyoming Bird Delta native Cathy Cook is the daughter of Alta Ashby and the late Carl S Ashby Seven years ago she married Jay Cook and they have three and Whitney Christian A graduate of Delta High School earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cathy sociology in 1986 from the University of Utah She is the of Supr Sensationals Dance Studio and her hobbies include gardening hand work and reading cook bool s She is also a talented and accomplished dancer David Bird is only seventeen years old yet he is a seasoned pet fot mer The son of Ron and Lamona Bird of he is a J988 graduate of Sutherland Delta High School and he has been awarded a music scholatship to study at Snow College in lie fall hile attending Lyman High School in yommg David performed in three musicals He also played the piano and sang in performances with the Bndger Valley Harmonairs in Wyoming At DHS David was a four year member of the Acapella Choir and he was selected for A1J State Choir two years He also sang in " ’LiJ Abner” and had lead roles m both “South Pacific” and “Annie” He was a member of the “1410” vocal group directed by Dave Wankier and he received two superior ratings on solos at regional competition With such a cast of stars you will not want to miss “Damn Yankees”!
