largest training exercise since the Korean war These exercies will take place at Camp Williams and Dugway UT for 15 days next June 12 - 26 1988 Battery A of the 1st Battalion 140 Field Artillery of Fillmore will be one of the participants Units taking part in the huge exercise will be from the states of California Washington Pennsylvania South Dakota Wyoming Colorado Oklahoma and Utah The exercise will involve over 17000 soldiers from National Guard US Army Reserve Air National Guard US Aitny and US Air Force units from around the United States The operation called Firex will be under the command of Utah’s I Corp Artillery and Brig General James Miller of Cedar City Fillmore’s unit recently was chosen as the best firing battery within a Battalion - a prestigious honor and received a placque Lt Col Stanley Gordon the Commander 1st Battallion of the 140th Field Artillery presented the placque to Capt Robert M Robison Battery commander of the Fillmore unit mother is Olive Anderson Saturday for her birthday were her daughter Avis Stephenson and friend Taylor Beesinger from Salt Lake and his daughter Jill Beesinger from Bountiful Also Cherene Cox from Provo Macel received phone calls from sistes and four children also from lots of grandchildren nieces and nephews A surprise birthday dinner was held for Eda Christensen at the home of her daughter Eloise Evans Those present were Ralph and Eda Christensen Eloise Evans and children Bobbie Ryan and Jennie Stephen and Evelyn Bowen Virginia and son Aaron Alice and daughter Tiffany We all had a very nice dinner Richard and Raelene Dekker of Lynwood California Mr Bill and Eva Miller visited in Delta on Wednesday with Mrs Goldie Miller The Bill Millers live in Orem Mrs Archie Barben and Mrs Colleen Stewart traveled to Salt Lake City Thursday for a visit with sisters Mrs Ada Roesner and Mrs LaRue Willden LaRue had just returned home from a few days in the hospital due to a fall i r ft' which caused internal injuries She is recovering well now Colleen and the Barbens also had a visit with Kathleen and Curtis Johnson in Salt Lake Mrs Ruth Steele was happy to enjoy a visit from her daughter Mrs Niel and Sherline Heyborne and a great all of Brady Heyborne grandson Evanston WY during the weekend They also visited with Mrs Shine Church and other family members in the area Mr Russell Stewart celebrated his birthday on Sunday His grandparents Mrs Archie Barben were hosts at a birthday dinner at their home to help him celebrate Those attending were Russell Jennifer and and Kristann Stewart Brittney Stewart Clint and Frankie Charles Joe and Colleen Stewart Cindy Stewart and Archie and Eddys Barben It was an enjoyable day Robert and Orpha Taylor enjoyed the company of 4 grandchildren Ralexis and Zachary (twins) Rosie and Quin last Thursday and Friday while another granddaughter Rikki with her parents Ann and Gene Henera of Salt Lake traveled to St George for the State Board of Realtors Annual Convention At the convention Rikki will receive an award for her entry in the Realtors Essay Contest Rikki a student at Cottonwood High School placed 1st in the State Competition in April and received a $200 savings bond Her essay was then entered at the National level where she won 3rd place out of 81 entries The national award is a $250 savings bond and an engraved trophy Needless to say grandma and grandpa are very proud of her The Taylors have been busy traveling the past month August 10 they left for Lake Powell where several of their family joined them for 3 days of boating and water skiing Then on to Jacob’s AZ for the Lake Langston Reunion They enjoyed the beautiful Grand Canyon and visiting with more than 110 family members While there Robert their oldest grandchild flew in from Chicago to join in the fun After 3 days at home they spent a week at Fruitland ID helping Dale and Gaylen Langston A week after returning home they were in Cedar City to attend the christening of their 30th Justin Ronald son of grandchild Doneva and Ronald Hunt SANDS APRTMENTS Mary Bassett The Windfields left Wednesday Sept 23 for Salt Lake City to attend farewell for a another missionary grandson Mrs Lillian Taylor returned to her home this week She and a son started on a trip to Calif but had car trouble so they returned back to Delta Mrs LeRoy and Elouise Larson of UT their daughter Jill Bountiful Greenland from Orem UT Kay Basset of Spanish Fork made a quick visit with their mother Mary Bassett at the Sands Apts They brought her some bottled fruit and lovely apples they also visited at the home of their aunt and upcle Jack and June Reed Uncle Jack is doing well since his operation They surely enjoyed their short visits and returned to their home the same day Many tenants at the Sands are making visits out of town I will write up their visits and return next week when I can catch them home Mrs Loraine Palmer has returned home after a check up with her
