Show liyTTnfintyi W Ml I Millard County MHS NEWS by Kelly Phillips CSPS Senior evaluations Jamison Moody Harper Kathy Moody is Student-bodPres New faces at Millard High Student Council rings bell ON SEPTEMBER 17 the birthday of the Constitution the MHS Student Council rang the bell for a consecutive 200 seconds They rang it at exactly 2:00 pm along with thousands of other bells across America There were also 200 blue white and red balloons let off Pictured L to R: Julie Limburg Aaron White Kelli Hansen Tami Rasmussen Bonnie Baugh Kelly Phillips Kathy Harper is one of the newest members of the Millard High School faculty She brings to our school a smiling face and kindness to everyone Ms Harper was born in Brigham City Utah The youngest of six children she has three brothers and two sisters She lived in East Garland which is near Tremonton Utah When she was 13 she moved to Malta Idaho where she lived until she graduated from high school In high school she was involved in FHA being the vice president for two years She was the yearbook editor her senior year and was also a class representative During high school she became a real sports fan football being her favorite After graduation she went to school at BYU and majored in Home Economics Her first teaching experience was at Wendell Idaho where she taught for four years At that time Ms Harper was called to serve a mission to Hondurus where she learned to speak the Spanish language She really enjoyed the mission and had a lot of great experiences Following her mission she moved to St George where her parents lived In St George she worked in a fabric store Now she is living in Scipio with her sister and her husband Susie and Ms Harper really Royce Memmott likes it here and we would like to welcome her to our school Kristine Dastrup Home Economics Sterling Scholar Mr Dave Naylor This year our choir and band are under the very talented direction of Mr Dave Naylor His schooling consisted of BYU Snow College and Southern Utah State College with majors in Design English German Studio Composition Elementary Education and Music Education He started his schooling in 1976 and graduated in 1987 He took a break from school to serve a two year LDS Mission to Frankfurt Germany In the future he wishes to teach choral music at a Junior College He plans to achieve this goal by obtaining his Masters Degree in Music Composition from BYU We consider ourselves lucky to have such a talented man heading our music program at Millard High School Thank you Mr Naylor! Pauline Zeigler Music Sterling Scholar Mr Ben Hunter THE NEW NATIONAL Reid Vice President SecretaryTreasurer Honor Society officers are L to R: Christina Clark Robison President Bobbie Wood would like to congratulate them by Daniel Cummings FFA Reporter Ben Hunter is one of the new teachers at Millard High School this year He is a 1981 graduate of Millard High While at MHS he was active in football wrestling baseball and FFA serving as Chapter President his senior year After graduation he served an LDS mission to England y Jamison Moody formerly of Delta the new Studentbody President of the Dixie High School St George Utah for the year He is the son of EvaDean and the late J Thurmon Moody He has also been busy in crosscountry running and in basketball for Dixie High is Homecoming Queen Seniors at DHS are being asked to bring their parents to school with them Mr Foster the student counselor at DHS is once again holding senior evaluations These meetings are for all and seniors interested in graduating to their parents are encouraged participate students During the evaluations discuss graduation requirements possible scholarships (especially Sterling colleges and applicaScholarships) tions the ACT and SAT and general student education for the future with Foster “This is the time for seniors to ask questions about anything having to do school goals It’s a time with to explore how to accomplish those goals I hope the seniors will come to me with questions and suggestions in mind” said Mr Foster of senior At the commencement evaluations sophomore and junior freshman evaluations will begin Thun Early dismissal scheduled for Delta High Students at Delta High School will be dismissed at pm instead of 3:10 on Friday October 3 The early dismissal is due to an important football game and the early hour affects DHS students only pm Winner of Tri-Dcontest announced el The lucky ticket holder winning the cedar chest filled with trousseau items was won by Peggy Sullivan The to extend a sincere thanks Store for Christensen’s Department helping them in this lottery The girls are selling tickets on three quilts for their next project Three winning ticket holders will qualify for a beautiful quilt Tickets are 52 each of 3 for 55 Be a winner! Contact any “Learning the skit we performed at the assembly and being involved in the homecoming festivities was a lot of fun” said Kristi Crapo the newly crowned homecoming queen Homecoming week is full of entertaining fun spirit promoting activities include Some activities at DHS decorating halls the powderpuff game and new this year a mud football game then of course the homecoming football game But another thing that makes homecoming week a little “prettier” than others is the homecoming candidates Then the queen and her court are chosen at a special homecoming assembly held one night during this week Ten girls are carefully selected from the senior class by the studentbody where they are then voted on again to determine the homecoming court The homecoming queen which was crowned at the assembly by last years homecoming queen Andrea Henrie is Kristi Crapo First attendant is Angie Callister and second attendant is Bobi Walker Kristi and her court reigned at the football game which homecoming Delta easily won Preschool openings The Millard District Preschool at Millard High has room for more students They have a morning class from am and an afternoon class from pm The fee is $90session ($2day) and they have a of 15 or payment plan payments Our 2nd session begins Nov 2 3rd session begin Jan 18 and 4th session beginning Mar 21 He went to college at Utah State where he graduated in Agricultural Mr Hunter is currently Education teaching Vocational Agriculture and is FFA advisor He is married to Sheri Allen and is living in Holden Mr Hunter enjoys teaching school and getting involved with the students Ever since he was in high school he has wanted to come back to Millard and teach Agriculture W'hen he is not busy he enjoys sports and with school square dancing Playground cleanup comEleanor Dalton principal plimented students of the fifth and sixth grades for their enthusiastic efforts to beautify the playground by removal of trash “I think they show very great pride in their school” said Mrs Dalton “If everyone would learn to pick up their own debris we would have no problems” she added noting that the grounds are utilized after school nours by other groups Fifth and Sixth Grade students were supervised in the cleanup work by the following teachers: Carol Frandsen Bud Nielson William Dutson Marilyn Johnson Pat Roundy Vickie Gillen Carol Nielson Gale Farnsworth Arlyn Finiinson Scott Sheriff and Rosemarie Nodine We PLAZA TWIN THEATRE Thru Oct 8 520 E Topaz on Hwy 6 at the Pendray Plaza Blvd X r r Twin 2 Twin r If they didn make wave They wouldn be Nerds!
