Show Millard McKay discusses issues with students KELLY CALLISTER BOBBIE DEIDRA PORTER sophomore royalty reigned over the FFA TURNER Harvest (I to r) Ball Harvest Ball Royalty Bobbie Porter Kelly C'allister and Deidra Turner were sophomores named Harvest Ball Royalty this year They ran against a bevy of candidates representing each of the classes Darnee Dutson with Amy Greenwood and Becky Bacon attendants represented the seniors Kristi Crapo was the queen for the juniors with Kylei Dutson and D’Ann Donahue attendents The freshman class elected Bethany Bacon Jill Jackson and Jenny Mortensen A Harvest Ball assembly was held on Triday and each class royalty made up by Trudy Young Gunn McKay candidate for congress talked to Delta High students discussing the issues He began his speech by saying that some of our greatest friends are those who have been exchange students in our schools So we need to put our best selves forward at all times although his Using a chalkboard writing was barely legible he told the students that senators fepresent territory and congressmen represent people California has 44 congressmen to Utah’s three He said that because most people prefer being in the majority people should elect him to Congress which has a democratic majority Mr McKay first discussed the issue of the trade deficit When he held office before the United Slates had a six billion dollar balance but since he’s been out of Congress there is now a 110 billion dollar deficit Students asked Mr McKay questions on topics ranging from SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative) to food aid to foreign nations He said he was for SDI if it is funded in levels He believes that in "famine the US has risen to the occasion of helping starving people” He also said that our country’s starving people should come first This statement brought a round of applause for the candidate Mr McKay was against drug testing except in cases of high risk jobs because the tests aren’t all accurate mints ( I Scott PTA BOARD MEMBERS: Sue Maw Janice Tenney Ann Losee prepare for the Sponge Throw and Bassett Jane skit and presented it to the student body Their performances turned out to be audience plcascrs During the Triday a money box was circulated in the halls Students paid a penny a piece for votes It was "close money" between the seniors and the sophomores but more under classmen dug deep into their pockets for the winning royalty The dance was held that night in the gym and was considered a stag dance allowing under classmen who couldn’t date the chance to attend The FTA sponsors this event a Halloween spectacular planned more Tickets ill be piesold at the school in the Media ('enter on thuisdav and they riday II tickets ate he evening ot the will be 12 lot $100 carnival tickets are 10 cents each oi 25 tickets all the booths can be visited (Some booths take mote than one tickets) The I A Boaid would like to give room a special thanks to patents mothers and faculty ol DM S lot helping with this fund raisei foi fun on Halloween looking night?
