and family visiting Bishop and Shannon Carling hosted: Tim and Diane Chris and Carling and 3 children Vickie Carling and little Cole Robyn and Kevin Kesler Shan Carling and friend Collett Hunt and Wells and Audrey Brunson Many other friends wished her happy birthday during the day also Being ever alert Cathy Bums was able to turn a routine Orthodontist trip to Salt Lake on Thursday into a wonderful experience on Friday She had been invited along with her mother to a special tour of the working facilities and then a gourmet luncheon at the home of Florence Hansen Mrs Hansen is the renown sculptress who did all the statues in the garden for the “Memorial To Women” at Nauvoo She is a very talented and exciting person and shared with Cathy her reactions to receiving this assignment She was even so gracious as to give one of her porcelain statuettes to Cathy Meadow Ward will be privileged later this year to have Mrs Hansen and her son speak to us The Relief Society out did itself again on Jan 22 with an evening devoted to “The Pursuit of Excellence” There was a delightful program presented to both entertain and encourage us A display table of the many talents developed by ladies of the ward showed what we can accomplish if we try A delicious luncheon and pleasant conversation rounded out the event Unexpected visitors at the home of Dean and Evelyn Mallet this week were Dean’s brother Wayne and his wife Ruth from Tooele They were returning home from a stay in St George Dean and Evelyn were also pleasantly surprised with a telephone call from their son Gary in San Jose CA informing them that their grandson Michael had successfully graduated from the Marine basic training school in San Diego They spoke with Michael on the phone for a few minutes learned that he was glad the basic was over and that he will be going to the Marine Base in So Carolina in two weeks Our sincere sympathy to Barbara Davitt and her family in the loss of her father God visited a few days before Christmas with Ray and Sharon George and family then on to Elk Grove CA where they spent the Christmas holidays with their son Bishop Sterling George wife Margot Lynn and six children This was a special occasion as they hadn’t celebrated Christmas with Sterling’s family for many years They were there to witness the lovely Christmas program in Sacrament that was put on by the Ward Choir of which Sterling were Lynn and Audrey Margot members and to be in Primary to hear Laura Stephanie and Emily sing a trio in their Christmas program On Dec 27 Sterling his sons Eric and David and his daughter Audrey brought them back to Salt Lake Sterling and his children spent a week visiting and getting in some skiing on Utah ski slopes On New Years Day Olaf and Blanche Sterling and three children Harold and Deanna Hurst with seven children were guests of Linford and Mary Louise Beckstrand and family for dinner and visiting Mary Louise and her daughter Camille are now getting along real well from the kidney transplant surgery Camille is back in school and enjoying the fun things 13 year olds are involved in Olaf has been busy with responsibilities in connections with his job as Director of Producers Livestock Marketing Assoc and he and Blanche enjoy attending the Jordan River Temple for sessions as often as possible ‘Bishop Bill Turner with his wife Arlene and their daughter Sue Koyle her husband Stan and their two children Shane and Suzette left on Jan 16 on a trip to Fresno CA where they spent a few days with the Turner’s son David his wife Natalie and son
