'nixxxxxxtt During the year of 1985 the Deseret District has had the privilege of working with many young men of different ages and particularly those from years of age In that time many have committed themselves to serving others We are referring to those who have achieved the Eagle rank would like to give an account of what has been done by those that have achieved this rank Many I draw your attention to the volunteer hours of service given by them to the community church or school In order for a young man to qualify for Eagle rank he must of 10 hours of give a minimum volunteer service to those organizations mentioned above If we were to count only 10 hours per boy we would have the equivalent of 300 hours of volunteer work in the above mentioned areas He must also have the support of some of his Scouting associates The time spent by them is somewhere between 15 to 100 hours or more If the average were to be used we could say the communities schools churches have received the benefit of many hours of volunteer work which if it were to be paid for would amount to considerable expense for these organizations Most of the' e projects were not really noticed by those who were the benefactors of them Among the services rendered to the school churches and communities were landscaping of a church repairing and painting of a concession stand in the park cleaning the trash from a city street cleaning around the church welfare building spraying and cleaning the city lawn cleaning repairing and painting toys for the school making lap quilts for the tended care books and gathering magazines for the extended care making horseshoe pitching pits for the city park making and posting “no parking beyond this point" signs for the park painting the bleachers at the park planting trees around the cemetery repairing playground equipment painting garbage cans repairing and replacing “yield” signs in the city repairing the American flags used by the city building of a bulletin board for the town at the post office planting trees in a burned off area clearing the tersection of tall weeds covering of a ditch near the church assembling bikes for the “Sub for Santa” program cleaning up some trees and repairing a bridge at the city park cutting weeds along the city streets painting the parking lot at a school and painting the fire station Eagle scouts and parents
