On top of that, the also controls licensing. There are business owners who are sitting without a liquor license, barely staying afloat on 3.2 percent by weight beer sales, because a hopelessly overwhelmed commission member hasnt pulled that business owners application out of the stack yet. With the licenses being limited to one new license issued per quarter for every 7,800 new Utah residents, that business owner doesnt have much of a chance in the first place. Does this look like sound management principles and practices, the very words that the UDABC website says the commission has been mandated to operate by? Staff Writer for strange and inefficient liquor laws, and its becoming clear that the fault lies in bad infrastructure. Putting liquor sales in the hands of a group of people who dont drink is kind of like letting your son take the car for a spin. The kid is going to wreck the car, not because hes an inherently bad driver, but because he just hasnt had any experience behind the wheel. The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control holds a monopoly on the entire liquor industry for the state. According to the UDABCs website, the main decision-makin- g body consists of five people who meet once a month. Lets put this in perspective. There are 44 liquor stores in Utah. Think about one liquor store. You have the lot its built on, the building its in, the inventory, the employees, you have to train new employees, you have to pay the electric bill, you have to budget for all of this and you have to consider a thousand other tiny particulars that go into running a business. And I havent even mentioned all the paperwork that underlies these processes. Then multiply that by 44, add to it the gymnastics of federal, state and local law, and you have at least a full days work eight-year-o- ld r rm State liquor stores in Utah are closed on Sundays and holidays. Alcoholic beverages are available 24 hours a day in Nevada. There are few restrictions on the sale and consumption of alcohol in Nevada other than age. Theyre thinking of profit as a dirty word, which is odd since Utah features one of the wealthiest religions in the world. The state profited almost $70 million last year, and will continue to profit even more as the target market grows. Im not necessarily advocating privatization of liquor sales because the 6 percent tax on every bottle sold helps subsidize school lunches throughout the state (ironic, dont you think?), but the UDABC needs to either relax or be dissolved into the commerce department. Issuing more licenses would solve most of the problem. It would make the patrons, business own- ers and tourists happier, and the state would make more money. People drink, and those who drink dont want to feel as if theyre committing a crime by doing so. 'tph'j Li- - I H it w 'si m.VV recently, and most of the prospects there were in jeans. Sure, jeans are trendy, but unless you are auditioning to be a jean model, then you would be better suited to dress for success. Put on a dress and heels (or dress pants and a tie) and show off. You will feel like you are worth more, and your attitude will be completely different. You will have the confidence you need to be successful. To be successful, sometimes a person just needs to get rid of the comfort, and dress to impress. Do your hair and your makeup, and feel confident about who you are. The other day I was running errands while dressed up, and someone told me I was the most dressed up person in St. George. That is just sad. Have you noticed you act like you dress? When you wear inexpensive clothes, then most of the time you feel poor. If you wear clothes you spend a lot of money on, then you want everyone to see you in one of your most cherished possessions. People feels their best if they dress up and care about how they look. You will have the confidence to do something with your life, and you will be happier. among the right. When you feel good about yourself, then you will have the confidence to share with others. And maybe you will inspire them to dress up, too. Then the world will look like a nicer, more beautiful place instead of a tacky one full of people in sweatpants and jeans.
