Student government leaders and Dean of Students Del Beatty restructured the SFAC, which had been in existence but was not functioning as it should, said Student Body President Mike Sheffield, a junior business major from St. George. Part of the reconstruction includ recently-re-instate- ed defining what student fees should be used for. The SFAC also implemented a system to meet with representatives from each fee at least every other year. The Fee Allocation Committee meets with representatives from all of the departments and programs receiving, or that want to receive, student fees in order to ensure the fees are being used properly. Some departments, like the Multicultural and Diversity Center, met with the committee to try to receive fees. Other departments ask for more fees, and others just want to stay the same. g So .153 Now there are a few fees on here that have been dodging the Fee Allocation committee for some time, Sheffield said. Two of them were the IT Support (Old Banner fee) and the Student Center Programs. The IT Support fee is $35 a semester, and the Student Center Programs fee is $55.90. When you combine these two fees its almost $100, Sheffield said. Its d almost of what the students pay every semester. And for me, I had a major problem with that. IT Support was originally instated to pay off one-thir- Banner, a program. Once it was paid off, it went toward paying IT support, which isnt something student fees should be used for, Sheffield said. Three years ago, Dewey Denning, who was student body president at the time, saw what was going on and came up with a resolution and presented it to the Board of Trustees. The resolution was to get additional funding for IT support and give the fee money back to the students. The Board of Trustees agreed and signed the resolution. President Stephen Nadauld and others have decided to go to bat for state-mandat- ed the students on this one, so you need to know that he and Frank Lojko, vice president of student services, are working hard at this, Sheffield said. Sheffield said Nadauld and Lojko didnt get it squared away Iasi year, but they will be back this year to work on getting money refunded. The plan is to put the $35 fee toward the renovation and expansion of the Gardner Center. Right now $25 of students fees are going toward a new student center, so this could more than double the funding, Sheffield said.
