The t Institute has already sponsored many successful activities this semester and has many planned for the rest of the school year. Friday was food day, where students with Institute activity cards were treated to a free lunch of pizza, breadsticks, a cookie, and a drink. The price for those without an Institute activity card was two dollars. I like food day because its free, and its a nice break (from school). Its good for poor, starving college kids, said sophomore Hilary Sanders. The Institute offers a variety of religion classes during the day and evening and also sponsors many fun activities. Andrus estimated that there are usually around 600 students in attendance at the firesides each Sunday. The firesides are the biggest group gathering we have at the Institute. Firesides are a good opportunity to meet people, learn, and start the week off right, Andrus said. Read the directions before you dive in to make sure you know whats being asked. Be Budget your time. Don spend 45 minutes on the multiple choice and leave yourself 5 minutes for the essay If someone else finishes in 5 minutes, they probably failed the test. Take your time. If you arent going to be there, tell your teacher, and plan another time to take the test. Itll probably be earlier, or a harder test, but thats better than a zero. On multiple choice questions, your first answer is usually right. Change answers only when youre sure. If you use acronyms as a memory aid, when you get to the test, write down your acronyms and what they stand for on the back of the page; that way theyre out of your head, and you can refer back to them. Its a good idea to show a partial solution to a math equation even if you can't get the answer. Many teachers will give credit for showing that you at least knew how to approach the problem. this Friday. Dinner and games will begin at 6 p.m, and the dance begins at 9 p.m. For those students who have an Institute activity card, the dance will be free and dinner will cost one dollar (dinner must be prepaid for at the Institute front office by today). Without an activity card, the dinner will cost four dollars, and the dance will be three dollars. Everyone is encouraged to dress Hawaiian style. The Institute has a standard of no shorts, tank-tophats, sleeveless shirrs, or belly shirts at dances. Wednesday nights are best known for fun activities at the Institute. This is when the fraternity, Delta Sigma Chi, and the sorority, Lambda Delta Sigma, meet, usually at 7 p.m. The groups had a combined barbecue during the first week of school and orientation last Wednesday. Everyone is still welcome to join. Institute is lots of fun. Theres a good atmosphere, where you can meet new friends and have a good social experience while doing good activities, said sophomore Mary Ann Blunck, who is over communications on the IRC.
