She and hei husband enjoy the desert and own 45 acres of land near rrednma, Arizona, where they have spent many summi rs. Carpenter said she wms drawn to Dixie College because it's a smaller schixil with a true community college mission and because she liked the people. "1 love it here. The classes are small. The people are fuendly ..theres lots ofgixxl interaction with students," Carpenter said. Carpenter attended high schixil in Texas and North Carolina. She then received her bachelors degree from the Utuveisity of North Carolina in accounting with minors in finance and statistics. Next, she winked for a year to cam her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. Then, this time at Texas Carpenter returned to school ANM where she earned her masters and doctorate degrees in accounting Instit tng. Many of Dixies faculty and staff are happy to have Carpenter join the business department. "Jan is always pleasant, is so easy to talk to, cares about the kids, and loves to teach," said Marcia Campbell, Bustne Department Secretary. When asked why she decided to pursue a career in business, Carpenter said, "I believed thrf this (accounting) was something I was good at. I knew I could find work in accounting, and it was very practical." Carpenter has actually been teaching since she was 21 .
