Show The Dixie Owl, St. Ceorge, Utah 13 A SCHOOL BOYS DIARY May 30. I lost my diary yesterday when I took it down to the ol fishin pond so I had to spend the money Id saved to buy ice cream sodys with for this ol book. This mornin when I told Ma I w'uz too sick to go to school she only laughed at me and told me my complaint was the lethergy. I dont remember studyin that disease but it sounds awful. I should think Mad be scared. Yesterday when I looked out of the window stead of workin sums teacher told me I had the spring fever. People generally die when they have two diseases at once, specially when ones a fever. Ma dont seem very worried though. She made me do my chores as usual tonight. Ive got to be awful good tomorrow so when Ma finds her old turkey she wont be mad. The big white gobbler started after me tonight and I jumped behind him and grabbed his tail, he had it all closed up. He gave an awful squack and jumped. He got away but left his tail with me. I dont know what Mall do to me. . She was awful prord of that turkeys tail. May 31. Played hooky today. When I got up this mornin I knew them fish down in the ol pond wuz jist waitin for me to come and ketch em, so when Ma started me to school I slipped around the barn and took my fishin tackle and run through the back meadow to the pond. I caught the finest string of fish you ever saw but didnt dass to bring them them home. Myron Cotton came down just before I got ready to leave so I give em to him. His Ma dont care if he dont go to school. Wish Is a Cotton even if they dont have no shoes or stockins. not even for Sunday, and have to wear trousers with holes in em. Myron promised to bring me a fish all fried to school tomorrow. Hope he dont forget. His family are great eaters though, maybe he cant |
