NATURE STUDY animals, as well, are classified in order to gain their economic status. It teaches us to spare and protect the life in nature that is favorable for us and to destroy or at least prevent the growth of that life unfavorable to us. Much study is required to obtain the economic status of plants and animals and hence it is not surprising to know that vast amounts of work are yet to be done. Nature study shows the wonderful work of ages in mountains and valleys surrounding us. The processes of erosion and mountain building are shown to us clearly, but little do we appreciate them because we do not - We study nature to become familiar with our environment and indirectly to help us in our strug- gle for existence. The history of life shows that those plants and animals that did not conform to nature were eliminated and hence demands that we live in harmony with nature in order to attain the best development. Our study goes far beyond what we see with our naked eyes. This strife and struggle and its results are manifest in all life activities. Geology is the science which deals with the pro- cesses at work in their formation. It is the purpose of nature study to give an understanding of how nature acts and thus save humanity from some calamity that results from the lack of understanding, which not only saves millions of dollars each year, but Dixie is full human lives as well. of nature nature furnishing problems that must be solved.
