Show Knots Landing calls Lisa Hartmanns reincarnations by Jerry Buck Associated Press Writer LOS ANGELES Lisa Hartman, who followed her mother and father into show business, has been reincarnated once on Knots Landing and could be again. Miss Hartman made her debut at age 4 in her fathers she was in such night club act in Texas. As a teen-age- r, South Pacific and Peter musicals as Cinderella, Pan at Houstons Alley Theater. Now she is one of the stars of CBS Knots Landing. In fact, its her second role on the prime time soap opera. Its strange to come back as another character, she says. "The first time, in 1982, 1 signed for 17 shows. I knew I was going to be murdered. I was going to do Knots and then go on the road to promote my latest album. I was working in the movie Where the Boys Are when I got the call to come back. IN HER FIRST first appearance on the series she was a young rock singer named Ciji Dunne. Her murder was a shocking climax to the season. She made such an impression on the producers that they brought her back in November 1983 as a Ciji lookalike, Cathy Geary, a waitress and singer. Ciji was a great character to play, says the lithe, blonde Miss Hartman. Cathys a little more streetwise. I always refer to Ciji as Bambi. She was wide-eye- d and innocent. Cathys more capable of taking care of herself. Shes a little more fun to play because she has more edge to her. THIS SEASON CATHY was married to Joshua Rush, played by Alec Baldwin. When Cathy met Joshua he was a virgin, Lisa says. She fell in love with this guy and she was the first woman he was with. Then, all of a sudden, he changed. Hes gone crazy. But they got married. What makes it possible for me to play scenes with him, because hes such a creep, is that I keep saying the nice guy is still in there and will come out. We move in with his mother and sister, but I want a place of our own." She gives him an ultimatum of sorts. I dont know what's going to happen, but Im signed for another year, she laughs. Maybe theyll murder me again. IF SO, THE PRODUCERS will probably have to bring her back in yet another incarnation. Lisa's father is Howard Hartman, a bass baritone who continues to be a popular singer and actor in Housg ton. Hes a guy, she says. All the women flock to see him sing. Her mother, Jonni Hartman, had her own production company in Houston, where she worked with Steve Edwards, now a Los Angeles television personality, and Jessica Savitch, the NBC newswoman who died in an automobile accident. Lisas parents were divorced when she was 7 and her mother moved to Los Angeles and is a partner in a show business publicity firm. Her sister, Terri, is also a publicist and is married to director A1 Footnick. LISA HAS NEVER married. great-lookin- Associated Press NewsFeatures Photo Lisa Hartmann, twice eliminated from being among the personnel on Knots Landing, has been reincarnated on both occasions to return to other featured roles. She has starred in a number of TV and theatrical movies, made numerous guest appearances on TV and was in the miniseries remake of Valley of the Dolls. ABC sitcom She also starred in the short-live- d a. Ive been lucky, she says. Ive worked with a lot of interesting people. Miss Hartman was interviewed the day before she completed work on the Knots Landing series for the season. We get about six weeks off, she says. Last year we had three months off, but were doing more shows now. We used to do 22 a year and now were doing 30. I just signed a new deal with Atlantic Records. Ill spend my time off hunting for songs and lining up a good musical team. Then Ill cut an album. Thats how I first came to Los Angeles, to do a record. I had been fronting a band in the hotels. SHE SAYS SHE ALSO will spend some time in Hawaii. She is a certified scuba diver and loves to swim around the reefs. Shes also into body building. I got into it for Where the Boys Are so Id look good in a bikini. But it increased my appetite and I got very big. It was mostly muscle. To slim down I eliminated all dairy products, sugar and salt from my diet. I basically eat only chicken, fish, fruit and vegetables. And tons of water.
