The latter line is the title of a song proposed in a bill introduced in the Utah Legislature this week to be designated the official state song. So amid the dollars and cents of flooding and education matters, the lawmakers may hear a few musical notes coming out of a committee room soon when the bill gains a hearing literally. Rep. Ronald L. Stephens, is sponsor of the legislation to declare Oh, Utahs My Home the state song, and changing the present official state song, Utah We Love Thee, to be designated the official state hymn. I think theres a role for both, said the sponsor of House Bill 184. The new song appears to reflect a little broader sense of the culture in modern Utah. But theres a tradition attached to the present state song, and it would be appropriate as a hymn. I surely dont want to offend anyone by suggesting the cnange. After-al- l, I believe the old song was written by one of my ancestors, Rep. Stephens added. The present state song, officially adopted in 1937, was written by Evan Stephens, who was the conductor of the LDS Tabernacle Choir from 1890 to 1916. The proposed new songs lyrics and r melody were written by Steven R.
