S 4 jf 6 John Zaratzian New President Mayor Ted Wilson has asked Salt Lake City's Task Force on Transients to form recommendations to present to the state and county for financial help. The task force, 12 representatives of local public and private social agencies, submitted its final report on the citys transient situation to the mayor Thursday. Mayor Wilson said there is an immediate need to provide emergency, temporary housing to single women and women with children. Resources for those transients are "tragic, he said. In a few weeks, the mayor said he intends to meet with Salt Lake County commissioners and Gov. Scott M. Matheson to call for state and county social service aid and commitments to establish additional assis tance facilities and programs to accommodate a growing transient population Salt Lake City's social service purview is limited, the mayor stressed, but the city can commit some federal Community Development Block Grant funding toward construction pro"brick and mortar-type- " jects. The city will sjiend about $5 million in CDBG funds this year on programs and projects dealing with inadequate housing and the poor. The task forces report lists shelter for transient parents with children and single women as the citys foremost concern. It recommends the construction of a emergency residential center to meet that need.
