Navajo Squaw Finds Indian Maiden, Who Will be Turned Over to White Doctor For Medical Medi-cal Attention Bluff, Utah. It has been discovered that Old Polk and his band of renegade rene-gade Piutes, have abandoned one of their tribe, a wounded girl being left behind to die when the Indians fled from the scene of their recent battle with a posse led by Marshal Nebeker. The 7-year-old Piute girl shot in the leg by a stray bullet during the battle bat-tle between the Piutes and Marshal Nebeker's posse here February 21, was left to die by Old Polk and his band of Piutes, it was learned Thursday from friendly Indians. A Navajo squaw, going over the battleground bat-tleground later, found the child and took her to her tepee. Navajos are now caring for the little girl, and she has a chance to recover. A physician has been sent to the Indian camp and he will bring the girl back to Bluff. Members of the posse have found 600 goats, abandoned by the Piutes in their retreat to Douglas mesa, in Comb and Butler washes. The second horse stolen from the posse by the Piutes has also been found by a Navajo, who brought it to Bluff. The scouts making the investigation in the washes found many more tracks than they had expected, indicating that the renegades' rene-gades' band had increased greatly in numbers. |
