Carranza Declares That Villa Demanded De-manded Impossible Changes in the Call Issued for a Conference of Constitutionalists. Douglas, Ariz. Carranza forces ua der General Benjamin Hill were routed rout-ed on Friday by the troops of Gov. ernor Maytorena in the first engagement engage-ment of the new revolution proclaimed pro-claimed by the state of Sonora in connection con-nection with General Villa's defiance of Carranza. Hill's loss is indefinite. Fighting began early in the day near Santa Barbara and continued throughout the retreat toward Santa Cruz, which Hill ordered when he found his troops outnumbered. A concentration of the Carranza forces, including all garrisons in northern Sonora which answer Hill's general order for their aid, is ordered for Naco, where it is expected the definite test of strength will come. Hill is playing for time until General Iturbe arrives with reinforcements from Sinaloa. General Venustiano Carranza has given to the press a ten-page typewritten type-written statement reviewing the difficulties dif-ficulties between himself and General Francisco Villa. General Carranza declared that General Villa demanded impossible changes in the call Issued for a conference of constitutionalist chiefs on October 1. Villa also demanded explanations, the statement said, the giving of which would be incompatible with the dignity of the first chief of the revolution. revo-lution.
