HUNTINGTON Miss Dawning, who is lecturing throughout the different localities in Utah under the direction of the state board of education and in the interests of libraries, lectured here Wednesday evening, after visiting the school during dur-ing the day. Her lecture was full of interest from an educational standpoint and was well received. She congratulated congratu-lated the people of Utah on the splendid corps of teachers which t he said were employed in the schools. Much was said to encourage the accumulating of library books, the establishing of reading read-ing rooms and the encouraging of the reading habit. It was suggested that we have a book shower, when those possessing private libraries might bring their books and present them to the public library. It was also suggested that those subscribing for magazines have them come to the public: library. Geo. M. Miller, of the school board, endorsed en-dorsed the remarks of Miss Dawning and offered to turn over to a public library hia private books valued at $800. He announced that the question of enlarging en-larging the school building had been submitted to Mr. Watkins of the state board of health, and that as soon as a report was obtained from that board a public meeting would be called to further fur-ther consider the matter of building. M. J. Blackburn expressed his appreciation appre-ciation of every effort to promote a public library, stating that he would gladly have the magazines now coming to his home come to a public library. Leon Leonard announced that the Price high school orchestra will give a dance here Saturday and will speak in the interest of music. Mrs. Mary Ann Cook, who has long been suffering ill health, was taken by Dr. Graham to Castledale last week, where she was operated on for appendicitis. appendi-citis. W. T. Jones, agent of the Utah Nursery company, has filed suit vs. Michael Beveridge sr., for the recovery of a sum alleged to bd due on trees furnished fur-nished in 1910. ORANGEV1LLE Boys were born in the homes of Jasper Jas-per N. Robertson and A. G. Jewkes jr. this week, all doing well. A. G. Jewkes jr. is in Salt Lake filling a commercial position for the present. The cattlemen of this place have built a stock yard above town and installed weighing scales. This is a step in the right direction. "A Box of Monkeys" was plaved by the Senior class of the E. S. A. to a good house on Wednesday evening. Elder Smith of American Fork, who is traveling through our county on business, busi-ness, talked to the Parents class and also al-so at Sabbath meeting last Sunday. His remarks were in the line of teaching teach-ing our religion to the young in the right manner so that they will accept it and live up to it in years to come. A bunch of beef cattle was sold to the California market a few days ago at this place. They were gathered from different parts of the county and brought in the neighborhood of $12,000. This is not so bad. PERRON Mrs. Owen Lloyd of Price has been visiting relatives an friends here. Mr. Ludeane Cox and Miss Theo Hitchcock returned fro"hn Manti last Saturday as Mr. and Mrs. Cox. These young people are two of Ferron's most highly respected young folk and we wish them every success in their new adventure. N The Home Economics association, under the direction of the Utah Agricultural Agri-cultural College extension division, has been fully organized and the various committees are preparing an exceptionally exception-ally good program. The date will be given latsr. Miss Jessie Blackburn, who is teaching teach-ing school at Cleveland, spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents. Joseph Hansen, who has been suffering suffer-ing with rheumatism for some time, is reported to be improving. Willis Thompson is home for a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Thompson. Tilda, daughter of Louis Olsen, returned re-turned this week from Salt Lake City where she recently underwent an opera-i opera-i tion for appendicitis. CLEVELAND An excellent and well attended conference con-ference was held here Saturday and Sunday. The Stake Relief Society officers visited the local organization prior to conference. Most of the students came home from the E. S. A. to attend r-onference. Miss Stella Johnson of Huntington has also returned to her home. (Continued on.page 8) |
