Show t, Utah Med ical Auxiliary Honors Urologist as "Doctor of Year1 Members of the Auxiliary of the Utah State Medical Association Thursday honored a Salt Lake physician as ' Doctor of the Year in a ceremony in Gov. Scott M. Mathesons office. The Salt Lake Tribune, Friday, March 31, The State Board of Examiners Thursday modified its anti Uiycott boycott of organ- izations backing the Equal Rights Amend ment and agreed in a split vote to judge state employees travel requests on a basis. Last week after the issue was raised by Lt. Gov. David S. Monson, the board instructed the State Finance Department to automatically reject any travel authorization requests from state employees wishing to go to conventions or seminars sponsored by organizations which are boycotting states which haven't approved the ERA Gov. Scott Matheson dissented, however Utah is one of those states; the list of boycotting organizations now is over 2iKt groups long and includes eight cities. Mr. Monson said Thursday he had Dr. Middleton, 702 10th Ave , is the second of three generations of Middie-ton- s to practice: his father, George W., once was the only doctor between case-by-cas- e Beaver and St. George and had to travel many miles over buggy trails to see his patients Dr. Middleton's sons, George William and Anthony W. Jr., are now practicing medicine and will continue on with 36 years of family practice, to date. Utah's medical doctors. Mrs Richard Nilsson, North Ogden, auxiliary president, said this is the first such presentation, though Congress, 20 years earlier to the day, had encour Mrs. Nilsson said hospitals and medical staff observed the day by taking doctors to lunch and sending flowers. Middleton Sr., honorary USMA president and a urologist soon to dose his practice, is the first Utah doctor to be so honored. He was presented a plaque by Gov. Matheson on behalf of the auxiliary. Gov. Matheson had earlier signed a declaration naming the day in honor of 1978 Dr. Anthony Middleton Doctor of the Year reconsidered his action and was willing to review those requests one at a time, though lie addt'd he "still is inclined to reject them " Gov. Matheson had dissented last week, and Thursday said it apXared Mr. Monson had now' moved over to supimrting his own offu ials up to including Gov. and Matheson But she said she actually didnt suppport the antiboycutt Uiycott, U'cause she believes the Examiners had last week 'usurped the prerogatives of the legislature. position Attorney General Robert B Hansen said he "didn't repent from his vote last week, and would vote against modifying the to earlier stand. The vote came out change the earlier directive. Lake, Rep Wyllis Dorman I.igh, read a statement urging examiners to make the earlier position apply to every public employee, including higher education, who don't submit travel requests through the board, and including elected Gov. Matheson is set to travel next week to Washington, D C. and without discussion that travel was approved. The District of Columbia has adopted a motion banning travel by its employees to any conventions or seminars in states which havent ratified the ERA, and by extension, it would seem the Examiner's note last week would have barred Gov.
