Show STORE BROKEN INTO; CHAS. BEEBE SKIPS Castledale Co-op. Store Broken Into Tuesday Night Not Much Taken - Charles Beebe Gives Bondsmen Bonds-men Slip-Sheriff in Pursuit It appears that the recent trouble wherein Charles Beebe, of Castledale, was tried and bound over to the District Court for robbing the postoffice and drug store at Ferron, was not a sufficient suffici-ent lesson. He has suddenly given his bondsmen the slip and up to date no trace of him can be found. It is rumored that he was drinking q lite heavily last . Tuesday evening at a dance given in honor of Henry Day, a returned missionary. Some trouble occurred oc-curred between himself and his father, and in the early morning the sheriff was notifie 1 of his disappearance. It was then discovered that the Castle-nale Castle-nale Co-op had been robbed of $25 cash and $20 in checks, a suit of clothes, a hat and a pair of high-topped boots. The store was entered at the back through the west window where the glass had been broken and carried to a near ash pile. It was the custom of the store to deposit it? money in the ; batik each night, and that accounts for the small rake-off the burglar secured. The horse, s l i lie, bri lie. chaps and spurs, belonging to Earl Seely of Mt Pleasant, were stolen the same niarht, hut they were all found the next morning morn-ing in Claire Winters lucern field south and west of Castledale. It is supposed that whoever the burglar was he intended in-tended to use this fine outfit, but from all appearances the horse broke away and made for the fields. Failing in this attempt the burglar stole the Levitt race mare, that was kept at Jim Jeffs, and Sheriff Thompson's saidle and left town. Mr. Levitt, who was down on Huntington creek with a b in 1 of horses he intended to ship at Green River, was notified by Mr. Jeffs of the disappearance disappear-ance of his race mare. He immediately started for Castledale and met Sheriff Thompson and turned them to the east with him, tracking the animal as well as possible. From the tracks it appeared appear-ed that the horse an J rider took to the east when they were well out of Castledale Castle-dale and in all probability were making for Sidbaa country. They are now in a district where they cannot reach us by phone and the people are very anxious to know more about the ease. These stealing incidents connected up with the disappearance of Mr. Beebe who was out on bail pending trial for a .similar offense and who's actions have h:-en such that, it looks like it will be an impossibility for the young man to free himself of the seiious offense. The young man was held under $3000 bonis an I the people were much in sympathy wit.i him because of his voluntary volun-tary return. Everyone hoped that if he were not guilty that he would be freed and in case of guilt all hoped that he would be leniently dealt with and that he would reform. His parents are among the best respected citizens in the county and all simpathize with them in their hour of trouble. Charles was a studentof the Academy a year ago and while he was in school he won the admiration of his teachers and his classmates because of his courage and stability and all are griev ed to see the evidence so strongly against him. Rumor is often very much over drawn ami although we have made deductions we hope that half of what is said proves to be untrue. LATER The Levit race mare headed this way without saddle or bridle was caught just north of Cleveland by the constable. Where the saddle and bridle ha:: gone no one knows. It was also reported late last evening that Mr. Beebe was taken at Sunnyside yesterday afternoon hut report from the sheriff at Price this morning informs us that we were misinformed. mis-informed. The man was seen in Sunny-side Sunny-side at five o'clock but was not captured captur-ed and has now dissappeared. |
