Dear Editor: This letter is in response to Ms. Aldermans letter to the editor dated April 28, 1999. My wife and I were in your town and picked up your local newspaper (the Southern Utah News) and were very offended by Ms. Aldermans attitude towards California and in particular people from California. Our take on her letter was that, she is trying to save some old historic buildings in your town, in particular the old library, (we commend her for that). She insinuated that people from California came into this town, stayed-short while, tore down all the a historic buildings, made sure there was a Califomiazation of the town, and then left. We were told, and got the impression, that this town is a tourist town, and that the local businesses depend on tourists. Ms. Alderman mentioned that she and her husband own a business in town (which I didnt quite understand had anything to do with saving the old library, unless she wanted some free advertisement?) Im sure that they, along with the other businesses, depend on people like us (tourists, by the way, from California, if you hadnt guessed) for their livelihood. After reading her letter, let me tell you my wife and I quickly cancelled our reservations and plans to spend a few days in your town for fear she or some other business owners would find out we were from California. Let me assure you that I will let my family and friends know exactly how this town feels about tourists, especially the ones from California. I have one question for Ms. Alderman, in the same newspaper (dated 42899), there was an article about a woman named Emma Norton who received the Governors Silver Bowl Award. Does she have to give it back, because the article stated she was from California? MAY 12. Everyone was so thoughtful and friendly, and so tolerant, especially of all those hounds in their town. I want to thank the staff at Shilo Inn, too, for their help and patience. They were gret! We had o much fun, parading through town, shopping, dining out, shopping, meeting everyone, and shopping! All the events Claudia Presto planned for us were just super. We especially enjoyed our dinner at F rentier Movie Town and the tour of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary' if I had the room, Id adopt them all!
