Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY MARCH 20, 1996 Sports Running the Kanab 10K two or three miles, and then I dont run anymore until race day. You must remember that if you are not ready ten days before the race, then its too late. Many runners will run right up to the day before a race. The argument is that it keeps them sharp and ready to go. I have found that many get injured or enter the race tired from too much training. This is something that most of us try differently each race to see what works for us as an individual. Keep a log and then if you dont feel good about this years performance, try something different next year, because by now you ought to be hooked. Tapering for the race By Terry Tucker Hopefully the training is going well and you are feeling excited and ready for the race. The idea of tapering is to have you ready for the race, but not d or extra tired on race day. As with all other aspects of running, this one has lots of different ideas, none can be documented to be any better than another. I like to slow down my training for the last ten days before a race. This means that on the Saturday before the race, I skip the long run and go out for maybe three or four miles and these at a pretty slow pace.
