Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Opinion 4 WEDNESDAY MAY 17, 1885 Dixie Speaks Every once in awhile, it's important to say," thank-you- " or "nice job." Upon moving here, it has been my observation that few people expend the time or energy to express their gratitude or appreciation, while the cup runneth over with people wanting to whine and criticize. Have you noticed how good it feels when someone compliments you? You take more pride in your work, and labor "extra hard" to make a difference. I'm far more willing to go the extra mile for someone who has said something positive to me. But unfortunately, we're all guilty of negative feedback-including me. Thus, I'd like to say "way to go" to the following: The Kane County Commission, Kanab City and Town of Fredonia for hiring Jim Matson as economic development consultant. Jim's a great guy, and will work hard at bringing good news to our "bad news" economy. To everyone who has put Kanab City Library fundraising on the front burner. This community really responds when someone, or something in this situation, is down and out. The Library appreciates everyone's hard work on its behalf, and looks forward to the community's continued support. May 1 is Law Enforcement Week. Thanks to area law enforcement for working hard to ensure our safety in our homes and automobiles. A Chicago friend teased me once about one particular police report published in our paper. "The worst thing I saw in there was a "dogs at large" report," he said with an envious laugh. We all realize that we have crime, dangerous drivers and trouble just like any other place in the country, but we're grateful for what law enforcement does to minimize those things. Thanks for contributing to our safety and peace of mind. To all the many volunteers who organize and coach children's recreational programs. It's amazing how much hard work and time that they spend, (I know. I'm for taking your own time married to one!) Thank-yo- u to provide wholesome activities for our youth. This week is also National Emergency Medical Services Week. Thanks to another group of volunteers who are always "there when we need ya!" We're proud of the skill level of the caring individuals who run our local EMS crews. To all the businesses which continually (and amazs. They are asked coningly) give to area stantly to give, and very seldom turn anyone down. What a wonderful asset to have businesses that are so committed to their community! 14-2- fund-raiser- Letters to the Editor since mid-Februar- y.
