Were marching upward to Zion, the beautiful city Zion is simply one of the most of God. The song stands testament to beautiful places in the world. While looking at the steep, stone mountains, you are struck with a feeling of something much older and more important than man. It took Mother Nature roughly 250 million years to create this scenic wonderland and the funny thing is...shes not done yet! Layer after layer of sedimentary rock makes up the surrounding mountains. With each layer deposited, the weight of the new material pushed down the old. The Virgin River also had a hand in the creation of that which we now call Zion. It sliced canyons as deep as 3,000 feet in some places, leaving the beauty that is Zion National Park. The incredible national treasure was established in 1909, when it was recognized and set aside by President William Howard Taft. Long before its official designation, Zion was a frequent home to Paiute indian tribes. The first homesteader to hang his hat at Zion was Isaac Behunin in 1861. While life must have been rough for the pioneer, Behunin was never-the-leappreciative of the beauty of his surroundings.
