Show Souvenir Edition 8 The Kanab Area Vacation Guide Fun in the sand-Cor- al Pink Sand Dunes State Park By Dixie Brunner Remember the fun you had playing in the sand box as a kid? Grown-up- s and kids alike have the opportunity to play in the sand when they visit Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Dont forget your pail, shovel and dune buggy when visiting this park north of Kanab that was established in 1963. The wide expanse of coral pink sand dunes afford plenty of fjin for kids of all ages. The pink of the sand, contrasted against the steep red cliffs and outcroppings of southern Utah, offers visitors a visual delight. The park features a campground, along with modem rest rooms, hot showers and sewage disposal station. Reservations for group and individual campsites may be made from three to 120 days in advance. The campsites all have parking, barbeque grill and picnic table. But eating will probably be the last thing on your mind, when 22-un- pull-throu- gh it you see the huge mountains of sand. You just have to climb those hills! Coral Pink Sand Dunes has 1,000 acres of play area for Vv I : x- v;' o. s'- - uicyf v A-- ' i; ' off-highw-ay vehicle enthusiasts. Hundreds of miles of trails and several developed roads are on Bureau of Land Management land adjacent to four-whe- el the park. While off-highw-ay vehicles are permitted on the dunes, strict regulations do apply. Riders should contact park personnel for laws and rules before venturing out on the dunes. While there are no developed hiking trails within the park, several lie adjacent, and are South Fork Indian Canyon Petroglyphs Trailhead lies four miles northeast of the park. Harris Mountain is north of the park and offers views of the sand dunes and Zion National Park. Moquith Mountains form the east boundary of Coral Pink Sand Dimes State Park. From sand dune vantage points, you can see Kanab Canyon easily-accessible.T- he Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is a sand box of epic proportions.
