Show School SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 22, 1995 8 Directing Anne of Green Gables When most people think of directors, they think of Hollywood and the phrase, Lights, camera, action! The directors at KHS havent had the chance to do that, but they certainly are of the same caliber. Norma Jones, director of the upcoming Anne of Green Gables at Kanab High School, is thankful for the help she has received from Linda Alderman, assistant director. Alderman has been in many musicals, plays, and is a wonderful actress. Recently, she played the lead in the community play, The King and I . Her background in drama and music have added a lot to the drama program at KHS. Anne of Green Gables is not a musical nor will there be a lot of special effects, Alderman said. It is strictly drama in its purist form. These very talented students are learning much about staging and stage presence. We are working on their stage voices as we will not be using microphones. Not only have they been putting on the half time shows at all home football and basketball games, but they have also been to many different competitions during the last two months. On December 3 they traveled to Heber City and competed in the Utah Classic Competition. There they performed their Kickline Routine, which was for all combined. Kanab brought home third place, also receiving a first in the military division and second in the dance. December 10 they entered the University ofUtah Crimson Line 4-- A, 3-- A, nd a Congratulations to Tiffany Abatti and Andrea Troutman for winning the school spelling bee. These students will repre- sent Big Water at the regional spelling bee in Kanab. Jan Thomas and Jamie Spoto are the alternates. Thanks to Dori Troutman for volunteering to coach these students. Student Council has imple- mented a new activity this year. Games Night. The first one was so successful that more are planned. Students play any number of games, basketball, watch movies, munch out on pop ' com and pop, or just sit a spell and visit. Parents are always welcomed at these events. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Wahweap! Wahweap has donated to the Big Water School an array of weight lifting and exercise equipment that would make an athletic club green with envy. The equipment is currently set up in the trailer behind the in mpeWDom Drill Team competition held for to schools. Here they placed second in military and third in dance. January 20, they again competed, going to the Rocky Mountain Competition at Woods Cross High. Their ratings there were first in prop, second in military, fourth in dance and second in novelty. 5-- A 1-- A February 11 was the Region means giving the character life and emotion, and drawing the audience into the story. Unlike any of the other performances, we are focusing on developing character. The focus is on act- competition. Each school was allowed to enter three categories. The Yearbook staff is excited about this years Yearbook. The staff raised over $1300 selling yearbook ads and have put an enormous amount of time and effort into making this years Yearbook a memorable one.
