I k L ii H'gh Notes 1 1 Clipper Correspondent Peterson Woods Cross High School WOODS CROSS - The most talked about victory for Wildcats in the past few months was Jan. 31 when our basketball teams t j the Braves sw-ep- during Pack the DAVIS HIGH - Joyce Horstmann is the kind of teacher whose lessons reach beyond the classroom She has taught me more than just how to write inspirational poetry or creativ e short stones - she has also inspired me to be all can be Mrs Horstmann is one of the nicest, most TT genuine people ' v I know She believes in truly otnyduib rh real, intellectual adult She challenges vou to It. urn about the fusion of the f nglish language, how its used toduv and how language cun be used to com tv voui complex let lines In addition to Mis HoNev an being awe some she Jill playing and the teams were on.a roll! The basketball teams aren't our only teams doing well, however. Our drill team went to state competition, our swunmmg team is making waves, and our wrestlers pinned the competition from the very beginning of the season this year. Debate had several winners in individual tournaments, as well as took best country representation at BYU Model United Nations. In December the Wildcats provided Christmas for an entire Salt Lake elementary school. Through school clubs and individuals each of the 210 children got a bag full of gifts from Santa in late December. January brought second semester. the counselors w'ere swamped with students wanting to make changes to then- schedules, but were patient and got everyone put in the right classes. Junior week gave students an excuse to wear their pajamas as well as participate in some awesome activities. The highly anticipated and well attended Junior Prom was held on the Jan. 18 in the U of U Ballroom. I WTote this message on the Bountiful High Marquee m an attempt to poke fun at political correctness A letter to the editor rebuking my message and me appeared in this publication as well as m the Deseret News The winter, a concerned citizen, wrote that political correctness only causes divi-si- v eness and is helping to ruin our society What he and others who have contacted me have failed to realize is that we were all saying the same thing I was condemning political correctness through satire that they did not And they were literally appreciate. speaking out against it. Why do we cower at the compl nuts of the few people with an attitude and too much time on their hands9 Why does the squeaky wheel always get the grease9 It is time to end the doctrine of appeasement and cowardice that has prevailed m our nation and especially in this community for the past few years We must be respectful to each culture, but not by sacrificing or by backing down from our own beliefs Political correctness is a necessary evil in some cases, but it has gone too far It is time for a return to normalcy So stand up for yourself Don't be afraid And have a happy holiday if vou catch mv meaning |
