The first time he retired it was from the Air Force at age 62. Now, after 19 years as executive director of the South Davis Area Chamber of Commerce, Burningham, 81, has decided to move on. Shortly after being hired by the chamber, Burningham filled out a questionnaire from the US Chamber of Commerce that asked, How long do you plan to stay with your current chamber? He answered. Not more than five years.' That five years, which began in September of 1980, stretched up until September of this year. It was a long time. Burningham said. I was just enjoying myself? He built a lot of good will, said Faye Richards, who has been executive secretary for the chamber for 24 years. I le enjoyed people. I'm sure the chamber is thankful for Haven. Thanks and and this time of year is appropriately tied to Buminghams name. Burningham had been executive director of the chamber only a few weeks when the chamber began looking around for something they could do to help retail businesses during Thanksgiving. It was then that the Gobbler Giveaway took flight. (See accompanying article.) I think the merchants like it... because it's giving something to the community. It makes for good rela tionships between chamber, community and cities. Everybody likes to wm some- thing, its an interesting pan of human nature. Burningham feels good about what the chambei has been able to do in the last 19 years. There are a lot of Hungs we would have liked to do that we couldn't.
