Show D SPORTS THE UNIVERSITY JOURNAL • SOUTHEllN UTAH UNIVERSITY • FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1995 Fornter SU football star to speak Homecoming Nail Special Scott Burns will address the Thunderbi.Id Athletic Club tomorrow Iron County Attorney and former Southern Utah University quarterback Scott Bum will peak at the Thunderbird Athletic Club Homecoming Breakfast tomorrow. The breakfast, with the SUU football team in the SUU Student Center's Thunderbird Circle, begin at 9 a.m. with serving through 9:30 a.m. The cost of the breakfast buffet is $4.50 per per on. Bums ran and thr w for 3,647 yards during his collegiate career at SUU from 1976-79. His name is still prominent in the Thunderbird total offense and passing record book. After earning his B.S. degree in political science/English from SUU in 19 0, Burns went on to receive a Juris Doctorate degree from California Western Iron County Attorney Scott School of Law in San Diego. He has served as Iron County District Attorney from 1987 to present. Bums was a ca ndidate for Utah Sta te Attorney General during the la t state-wide election. Scott and wife, Alice, are active members of the Thunderbird Athletic Club. Bum has developed a reputation as one of the be t story-tellers in the area. He is expected to bring several Burns-era football stories to life at th aturday mormng breakfa t. Former SUU Sports Information Director and former Iron County Commi ioner Jim Robinson, who is well acquainteQ with Burns' accompli hments both on the playing field and in the courtroom, says of tomorrow' peaker: •Aa quarterback: "Competitive, loo e, and made the team members want to win. He would do almost anything to get the extra yard or win the game. Scott had a strong arm, and he wa surpri ingly effective a a crambler, even though he ran like a plow horse." • As a c·o unty attorney: "No t surprisingly, it i some of his foo tball trai ts that distinguish Scott as a county attorney. He is extremely Burns hard competitive; he hates to lose. He works hard and will do almost anything to come ou t on top." • As a storyteller: "ft's easy, just wa tch for the twinkle in his eye, and from that point be careful; y u ju t may get your leg pulled.
