Show Sun Chronicle, March 20, 980, Page 3 1 Folk dancers to perform Mar. 29th Jensen, founder Mary Bee s and director of the International Folk Dancers, will direct a performance of the world-famou- company March 29. 1980 at the Val A Browning Fine Arts Center iWSC Campus) The March 29th production is being presented by the Utah State Seventies Ko Tickets can be purchased from Jorgensons Bookstore in Roy or from the Val A Browning Fine Arts Center on the Weber State College campus. A family pass can be purchased for $12 00. Adult 'ickets run for $3.50, students are 2.50 and children can get in for $1.50. One of the United States foremost folk dance experts, Mrs. Johnson established the Folk Dancers in 1956 at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Under her 6 30 pm. in direction, the group has expanded from the original seven couples to 264 dancers. The Folk Dancers was built on a dream. Mrs. Jensen said. Each year we put a more challenging dream ahead of us, and the result has been members, more new choreographies, and three touring companies within the group " Directed by Mrs. Jensen, the International Folk Dancers have toured Europe each summer for the past 15 years. In 1964, they were the first folk dance team to represent the United States at international festivals. In 1974, Mrs. Jensen was selected as the official delegate for the United States by the Confederation of International Organizers of Folklore Festivals iCIOFF). At the same time Folk the International Dancers were chosen to represent the United States at all the CIOFF festivals throughout the world. An official affiliate of UNESCO, CIOFF represents 29 countries and works to unworld promote folk derstanding through dancing. During the summers of and 1977, Mrs. Jensen visited and studied the arts in Romania and Poland at the invitation of the National Alliance of Arts Education, a project of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Sixty outstanding arts educators from throughout the United States were given this honor. "We were treated to the finest of the arts in each country, Mrs. Jensen said. In 1977, Mrs. Jensen was the first American to sit on the jury of the Polish International Folk Festival in Zakopane.
