As he enjoyed teaching people in the mission field, Button wanted an occupation that would allow him to teach and be a part of young peoples enthusiasm for life. He attended Southern Utah State College, now Southern Utah University, on a ment of Education scholarship, graduating with honors in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. He has taught fifth through eighth grades throughout his career. His favorite thing to teach was 7th grade Utah History at KMS, as he has a special interest in early Indian and Utah History. He has also enjoyed teaching students about the varied and beautiful geography of Utah. Button has enjoyed the fun of being around young people who are not yet filled with prejudice and negativity. He has made many enduring friendships with students and teachers through the years. After retiring in a few years, he plans to spend time with his grandchildren and pursue his many hobbies- - running, flying his paraplane, photography and exploring the canyons. He also hopes to catch up on his list. wifes honey-d- o pre-Morm- LaRae Moore Each year, LaRae Moore feels that she will never love a class as much as her current one, and then she finds she cherishes the next one just as much. She thrills with the successes of her students and she hurts when they hurt. It is this deep love and concern for children that led her to become an elementary school teacher. When she was young, her family moved around southemUtah, such that she feels that she has Mrs. several hometowns. Moore attended Southern Utah State College and earned' a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1972. In 1998, she again studied there, now Southern Utah University, and obtained a Masters Degree in Education. She has been teaching for 23 years, in all elementary grades except third. Her favorite subjects to teach are math, science and reading. 13 - 6th Grade raised their family of four children in Kanab. She loves the peacefulness of Kanab and speaks of appreciating her life here every single clay. Carol Lee Russell Jacobs Perhaps because in her youth she spent a lot of time in her fathers general store in Orderville, Utah, Carol Lee Jacobs thought she would like to study business in college. But after three years at Southern Utah State College(SUSC), she became disillusioned with that path and decided to go into Elementary Education. Her small town childhood had given her many opportunities to pursue extracurricular activities and develop skills. She graduated from Valley High School as an honor student and a Sterling Scholar. It was during her studies at SUSC that she married her junior high school pen pal and friend, Doug Jacobs. She graduated with a BS Degree in Elementary Education, with a Reading and Early Childhood Minor. Together, she and Doug took their first teaching jobs in Las Vegas, where they lived for three years. They then moved to Kanab, where Mrs. Jacobs spent the next 13 years raising their four children- - Spencer, Adison, Mollee and Emilee. After recertifying her teaching degree, she returned to teaching in the fall of 2001 at Kanab Elementary School, teaching Kindergarten. This year she is teaching 6th grade. Having always enjoyed children and particularly what one can learn from them, Mrs. Jacobs loves it when they catch her, mistakes. Teaching is not like a job to her, she says, but fun She enjoys watching children get excited about learning and understanding concepts new to them. She has learned to treasure the uniqueness of each and challenging and close child. She has also learned that enough to bliss. She has the way to raise a childs self- learned patience and is now esteem is to arm the child with concentrating on creating new skills. units and ways of teaching Sophomores: Alayna Heaton, For the past 30 years, she and new concepts.
