| Show SCHOOL EXTEN SION WOM on saturday juno june 22 a trip was made by forty of the boys boya who are engaged in the club work contests the boys who made madae the trip were from the fielding riverside garland j elwood and tremonton Tre monton schools some fields of sugar beets beeta potatoes and on tons lona were visited and the boys were shown the advantages of careful cultural methods by the supervisor of agriculture the tha boys and fathers owning the fields were noti notified fled a week previous that the visit would be made the fields were cleaned of weeds and the crops cultivated in order that a good showing could be made mad e this delighted and enthused the toys I 1 and will bring wonderful results to the I 1 farmer r who is fortunate as to have such a classow boys visit his farm at 5 in tho the evening the party arrived at the farm of john P Holm holmgren grea of bear river city the boys were met with a hearty welcome by sir air holmgren who went over his farm with them pointing out the successful phases of his farm work they then gathered under the large shade trees where mr Ho holmgren lingren gave the boys an hours talk on the advantages ot of club work ile he impressed upon them the importance of doing work carefully and properly stating the necessity of keeping livestock on the farm in order to keep up and maintain the fertility of the soil he emphasized the fact that nothing was more important than keeping the weeds down on the farm as they so BO much moisture and fertility from the soil robbing the plants of food necessary to make them grow and develop sir ir Holin holmgren grea showed the boys a simple method he be had followed in keeping farm accounts as much of a farmers success depends upon keeping farm accounts this method shows just what it costs to produce crops and livestock and it if any crop or class of stock was not paying a profit the system would soon reveal the condition at the close of the talk tg the boys were served with a lunch and anc lemonade by mrs M rs holmgren lingren Ho and her girls after which the boys departed for their homes with expressions of ol 01 having spent a most profitable and pleasant half day |
