While she has a good head on her shoulders, her interviewers arent concerned about her brains. They want to see how she looks behind the camera. For the past six months, Miss VanderBeek, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert VanderBeek, Price, has been living one of her childhood dreams of being a high fashion model for a top modeling agency. She recently returned home from a European modeling stint to finish her education at Carbon High School. In an interview with the Sun Advocate, Miss VanderBeek said being in the world of fashion isnt as glamorous as many may think. Modeling is harder than I expected, she said. Especially when you are not there is a lot of running doing jobs around. You have to go out and get your own work and to do that you have to sell yourself. Miss VanderBeek signed with the Elite fashion agency in July this year. Elite is a d New York operation vying for the largest agency in the as top billing country. For three months, Miss VanderBeek concentrated on testing and building a meager portfolio in the competitive business. The following three months were a whirl for her as she found herself working professionally in London. To go to Europe was an absolute blessing, she said. What I do is just my job, she said. Its exciting when I am able to see the rewards but I must keep going on. I am a model because I love to be in front of the camera and create. But, like I said, it is just a job. Being a forest man has just as much prestige as a model. Living in Europe was a challenge for the young LDS woman. Miss VanderBeek said her contact with the church was the only secure portion of her life. It (the church) is the thing that is New secure, she said. It never changes. In my world, day to day, things always change and it is kind of scary. The church is like having a family while Im away from home. While the head of the agency, John Cassablanca, tried to convince Miss VanderBeek to remain in Europe to continue modeling, she felt now is the time to finish her education. Im definitely missing out by not being in London, she said. All the catalog work begins the first of the year. They didnt want me to come home. However, Miss VanderBeek plans to go g into modeling once she with her class this year. graduates I know the opportunity will be there when I get back, she said. Now is the time to go to school.
