Show Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 9A Tuesday, January 14, 1992 Editorial policy Letters to the editor movie stars, cowboys and The biggest fish of ail Editor: In each family or household across this nation, people allow themselves a certain amount of money for entertainment. Is this not correct? Some folks use this allowance to fish, some to hunt, some to bowl, some to golf, some go on cruises and others dine in fancy restaurants. Me, I go to the races, preferably where there is wagering, for you see, I am evil! Now I should have gone fishing, bought a boat, a motor, a pole and reel, gas, worms and a lunch. If Im lucky, I may bring home a big fish. But instead, since I am so evil, I take my family, $25 and go to the races. When we arrive at the race track, we are greeting by some many evil friends bankers, lawyers, stake presidents, bishops, senators, pari-mutu- al . housewives. We are seated at a nice table, then we walk out to view the most wonderful sight our eyes can behold. To us, that is the magnificent animal called the race horse. We study each one as it walks proudly to the track. We see the deep concentration on the faces of the jockey, and we know we are about to witness the greatest athletic ability found in any sport, anywhere, for we understand the beauty of this spoil. The race has ended and as the winners stand proudly in their circle of flowers, Im jumping up and down. For the price of a can of worms, I just won $947. And I dont feel a bit evil. In fact, I feel fairly intelligent, smart enough to have caught such a big fish! Be careful lest you lose the biggest fish of all, your right to think and choose. Donna Burns Salina Multiple use? Our son had an accident at our home, which required immediate help. The response was, to say the least, amazing. Within moments, there were Price city police officers coming through the doorway. Seconds later, the ambulance was here. Through the panicky seconds before their arrival, the dispatcher held together a very that we sincerely appreciate all that you did for us in our time of need. You can pat yourselves on the back for a know great distraught mom. This story has a happy ending. Our son is now doing well. Although he cannot remember the accident nor recall the prompt, professional and reassuring way in which it was handled by all those who responded to our 911 call, we can. We want those people involved to know how much we appreciate all that was done for our son and for the other family members that were at our home. We would also like the community to know that 911 is staffed by caring, competent and professional people. We are sorry that we did not get the names of all those who responded to our call for help. We would also like you to job well done. The Sun Advocate, consistent with the 1st Amendment and Article I Section 1 5 of the Utah State Constitution, believes in a free marketplace of ideas. Barry Atwood family Personal crises Editor: Editor: Because I have attached myself publicly to the healthcare issue, I get and welcome mail and contacts from others interested or in need. There are so many folks in crisis right now because they lack insurance coverage, I fluctuate between sadness and anger. My reader is probably as frustrated as I am. We must try to help those in crisis and at the same time use pressure tactics on those responsible to make changes. Linda Semken Vaughan of Price is a single parent with two children. She must have a bone marrow transplant for leukemia. The estimated costs are over $125,000. Any contributions to the LDS Ilospital-DescrFoundation in her name are crucial to her recov-er- A big We, too, wish to express our disgust over the shop locally for the big bucks in Carbon County deal. Not only was it not worth it, but the bidding didnt give people like us who did not have $10,000 to spend a big laugh. Why didnt they auction off the small items first and let the people start the bidding? Who ever heard of auctioning off Pepsi for $1,000? Give us a break. I know several who wont miss a shift, to go to something as phoney as t his again next year, ifthere is one. Ill be the first to go over time-and-a-ha- y. deductable. Contributions may be sent to the LDS Hospital-DesereFoundation, Linda Vaughn Fund, 8th Ave. C Street, Salt Lake Citv, UT 81143. Eugene J. Faux, M.D. Volunteer coordinator t, AARP Neil and their great committee. We know the Chamber of Commerce put a lot of time and energy into this project and the end results showed it, even though there will always be those people who will try and ruin a good thing. Like everything new, the kinks have to be worked out. Thanks to the chamber for a banner year, looking forward to 92. Kathy Yoklavich lf the mountain. We spent around $4,000 during that time. Someone else will get my money. Really disgusted et Donations are tax they were local people. We were also very proud of Kathy, farce that we participated, Mel and Sylvia Stevenson Enjoyed auction Editor: I, like many, couldnt stay in the bidding game at the auction, but nonetheless we were truly entertained. The auctioneers were very professional, and we were very proud Not the only fool Editor: Im glad to see Im not the only one who felt like a complete fool at the BDAC with my measley $900 in auction bucks (and I thought I did good). I never even got to raise my plate once. The people near me had $300 to $400, and they thought they could get a haircut or dinner. Well, forget that. We decided the v ay to get 3,000 or more bucks was to buy a house. Thats what all those who had that kind of money did, or else they worked in a store and kept the cus- (Continued on Page ISA) n campus. Why is there no memorial in Price for those who have given their lives to supply our nation with coal? Are the men who died in Wilberg, Castle Gate or Scofield less significant than those who died in war? Perhaps the new committee will its plans for a memorial to include all those deserving of recognition, beginning with the original settlers in the area. The early settlers, the railroad workers and the coal miners have all made tremendous sacrifices for the benefit of Carbon County. Gentlemen, plead with you not to let selfish interest ruin the spirit which has made the community a shining example of the positive effect cooperation can have. The lot belongs to the people, so allow it to stand for all the people who are joined in the spirit of our community. Thats because Chicagoans dont trust strangers who ask how they vote and have often lied and turned polls upside down. But maybe New Hampshire folks are more open. Ifso, even with the usual plus-and-min- error margin, it would indicate that Cuomo could make a good showing in that state without having to clutch hands, spew TV sound bites or munch on homemade cookies for the cameras. Ive also said many times that too much emphasis is placed on the New Hampshire primary. But its the Democratic leadership or what passes for it, that has let the partys many factions create this nutty primary system and schedule. And the Washington pundits go along with it. They have a right to choose their favorite chaos. However, Krone and others have a right to horn in. And thats what theyre doing. The draft Cuomo campaign is picking up steam, not only in Chicago, but in other parts of the country. All day Saturday, volunteers and some of the prospective Cuomo delegates will gather at the campaigns offices, 36 S. State St. in Chiy cago, for a combined session. Some have already said they are planning to go to New Hampshire to drum up write-i- n votes. As volunteers, they are responsible for their own long underwear. If Chairman Brown wants to stop by at the gathering, he will be welcomed. Do him good to meet somebody besides Washington pundits. Theyll even give the chairman a chair to sit in, although not in the front row. 20 - m. Persons with Allergies oo oo & rkenmore SAVE Whit Coiwettia 'Total capacity f? 21.6 CU. t ' i E2.-- V. FT.
