The canyon has become a mecca for rock art enthusiasts from around the world and offers spectacular panels of both petroglyphs (carved) and pictographs (painted). Nine Mile Canyon was home for several centuries to an ancient people known today as the Fremont. Their homes, granaries and storage cysts can be found all up and down the canyon. But the real draw to the canyon are the thousands of rock art figures which cover the entire canyon. The largest concentration is in the middle of the canyon, however. The ideal is to camp in the canyon and take at least two days to visit this prehistoric showplace. Even if you are only going for one day, take comfortable hiking shoes because the lure of the canyon walls and ledges is hard to resist. And dont forget plenty of snacks and water. In bug repellent is helpful. Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum in the Price Municipal Building at 200 East and Main streets will make the trip more enjoyable.
