Show 2B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, July 16, 1987 'Robocop' Offers Action And Fun Sixteen Assistant SEEN ON THE SCREEN DEPT.: Does anyone out there remember cyborg Steve Austin, the Six Millon Dollar Man? Well, forget him because opening tomorrow (Friday) is one of the most action-packeadventure films released this year, Robocop. Its the future and one corporation is trying desperately to upgrade the police department by creating the ultimate cop, one who doesnt need sleep, is always on the street after criminals. Unfortunately the first one which they demonstrate to the police departments upper echelon goes wacko and kills one of them during the demonstration. Another project, run by a younger member of the same company eager to climb the corporate ladder, goes under immediate implementation. Meanwhile, Murphy, a cop who has transferred into the department is killed in the line of duty and winds up getting all sorts of technical gadgets and is named Robocop. This guy remdmbers nothing of his past, but the way he handles crooks assures his future until one night when he has a dream which brings back bits and pieces of his past. Now hes hot on the trail of the gang that killed him and nothing is going to get in his way. GRANITE PARK. Names have been announced of personnel newly assigned to serve as assistant principals in Granite School Districts west-sid- e schools during the coming by Mark Cartwright (irecn Sheet Entertainment Critic d AS WE SEE IT some great moments as well. . Sure Robocop is a comic book type of character and probably wont be up for any Oscars, but who cares? Its a great actionadventure film that does what it was supposed to do, it entertains the audience and with all the heavy, socially significant films which are coming down the pike soon its a relief just to be entertained. Robocop which was screened at Plitts Crossroads Theater is well worth the price of admission. Other films out there that deserve your attention are Roxanne, starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah in, what has to be, Martins best comedy to date. Its a real winner and should be around for a while. Mel Brooks Spaceballs is a teriffic of all the well comedy send-u- p known outerspace films and another comedy worth the price of a ticket is Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise which, if you liked the original, should keep you in stitches. Another film opening tomorrow is Jaws The Revenge, SpmoCfy FCcincta FOR ALL OCCASIONS At Reasonable Prices! Weddings & Funerals are our specialties call 966-625- 0 HOME ON THE VIDEO SCENE DEPT: Jack Lemmon and Julie Andrews are alive and somewhat well in That's Life which is a humorous and often tender film about a man coming to grips with the fact that he isnt as young as he used to be. Lemmon and Andrews, under the direction of Blake Edwards, are superb and worth the rental. Eddie Murphys Golden Child which was a critical bomb but a box office hit is out on video and, quite frankly, fits the small screen better than the big one. If your sense of humor runs wild, I suggest you rent a copy of Rhino Videos TV Turkeys: The Worlds Worst Television Shows, which covers shows that had short runs and some that never made it to the tube. From quiz shows to comedies (?) to dramas, they are all stinkers of the first order and thats what makes them so funny. For the kids, theres Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs celebrating its 50th anniversary (and she looks pretty good for 50 years old), Benji, the Hunted, which is realeased under the Walt Disney banner. Of course, Beverly Hills Cop 2 and Dragnet are still playing, so there is something for everyone at the theaters now. A LOOK AT Robocop, naturally, isnt Hamlet, but its a load of action and fun from start to finish. Peter Weller as Robocop plays his role for all its worth and Nancy Allen, as his partner Lewis, is certainly a welcome presence. The big surprise is Ronny Cox (Lt. Bogemill in Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2) as one of the heavies who was responsible for the first robot that went haywire and resents the Robocop program and its creator. The special effects in Robocop are something else and Dale Martin deserves all the credit and lets not forget the stunt personnel who put in nions were valid, it wasnt a balanced show at all. But, what can you expect? its a humdinger ( theres a word dont hear much anymore.) Its OPEN 7 DATS A WEEK not your average fright show. The transformations from humans to creatures during the two-hopilot were excellent, as was the premise, script, acting and photography. The pilot is being repeated tomorrow and if you want to see a television show that wont bore adults to death, I suggest you see Werewolf. Yes, its going to be a regular series.
