For the most part the game was a duel between Troy Hymas of Alta and Kearns' Mike Peterson. Hymas struck out 11 and allowed just two hits, while Peterson fanned nine and gave up six hits. Granite wouldnt fold and gamely stayed close with a run in the fifth. David Davis singling and scoring on Brian Binghams single. Kearns closed the scoring with a Staley homer in the sixth. Staley went 3x4 in the contest w ith a tnpel and a home. Everybody got at least one hit for Kearns, which finished with 14 total. Granite had six hits. Kearns Kearns lost only its final game with a home run in the bottom of the seventh. Both teams finished with tourney records, but got the gold trophy basd ed on competition.
