Hercules Aerospace announced plans Friday to move a $300 million development and production program from the west valley plant because of encroachment problems. Two hundred jobs were forfeited because the new SRAM II missile was transferred to Rocket Center, West Virginia. Our facility in West Virgina is tactical better suited to high-rat- e motor production, but the encroachment problem which has plagued Hercules for nearly a decade was a factor in our decision equation, said Aerospace Products Group President E.A. Mettenet. Last year, the Bacchus Works of e Hercules was selected for development of the second generation short range attack missile known as SRAM II. SRAM II motor production was to be built in the eastern sectin of the facility, which has fallen in the shadow of ever increasing residential development in recent years, according to Mettenet. one-thir- d Over the past 15 years, Hercules officials have expressed concern that an explosion at the plant could send shock waves. Winds over 100 miles per hour in a one and a half mile radius could be generated. Fragments could also shower the area. Some critics (no names, you know who you are) beat a hasty retreat for the exit before the theater lights go up either to avoid discussing the film they have just seen or to avoid listening to someone who wants to talk about a review of a previous film. On the other hand I generally leave when the audience does and while I will not discuss the film I have just seen, I dont mind talking about past reviews should someone recognize me and want to talk. Its called keeping in touch with the public. One lady approached me and was livid that I had lambasted Shanghai Surprise (as did every other critic), which she felt deserved better treatment. It wasn't hard to explain that while Sean Penn has turned in some fine performances, and will undoubtedly do so again, the picture was poorly written, that Madonna isnt much of an actress and the entire mess made as much sense as ordering a Big Mac at Burger King. The lady left in a less hostile state and even admitted that it could have been better. On the other hand one reader mentioned that I had been unfair to Charles Bronsons Assassination. I went home and threw it on the VCR and I have to admit that, while the script still had more holes than swiss cheese, it worked better on video than it did on the big theater screen. Some films just do not work well on the VCR because they dont give you the total effect that the producer and director had in mind. Some films which come to mind that do not make it on television include the Star Wars trilogy, Gone With the Wind and E.T. Some that do work better on television are the aforementioned BY JACQUES UWERPuzzles Edtted by Eugene T. As of right now, big plans are in the works to bring the sequel to Gone With The Wind to the big screen. Seems that the executors of Margaret Mitchells estate have hired a writer (although they wont disclose the writers name) to write GWTW 2. It has also been reported that the late Mitchell didnt want a sequel to her classic. Word also has it that the copyright runs out around 2009 and then anyone can make the sequel so why not let the estate make the money? Such is the case of the now officially cancelled Hill Street Blues, which was one of the most creative experiences to hit television.
