Yes, every so often some teacher, who hasnt yet become encrusted with the endless parade of students, will look beyond one more face and see a person. And, perhaps change a life. ft The Salt Lake LDS temple was the scene, on December 18th when Jess Birtcher claimed Casandra Cannon for his bride. The double ring ceremony was followed by a wedding breakfast at the Holladay LDS ward chapel and that evening the newlyweds greeted guests at a reception at the Lion House. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael B. Cannon of West Valley. She graduated from Granger high and is attending Brigham Young University. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Birtcher of Holladay are the parents of the bridegroom, who graduated from Olympus high. Jess has filled an LDS mission to Tokyo, Japan, attended Columbia University in New york City and is attending BYU where he is a member of the soccer team. Jill Birtcher attended the bride as maid of honor while Jenny, Amy and Julie Birtcher were bridesmaids. Jill Pitts attended the guest book. But gradually a person grows up, and, with maturity comes the astounding knowledge that friendships with other people and groups are And then, best of all, perhaps, are the friendships with your own children. Once the turbulent, rebellious adolescent years are over, if were lucky, our mature children return to us as friends. And the fact that one happens to be the biological parent and the others the offspring, is just plain happenstance. I have friends of all ages . . Friendships occur in the most unexpected places and, if you're open to life, they never stop coming. Isnt it great that Christmas comes once a year and we have that marvelous chance to tell possible. This came as such a surprise to me that I thought myself most unique. A large group of friends and relatives from the Murray West Stake 11th ward, accompanied the Powells and that evening the group and all their children gathered at the ward house for a pot luck dinner and celebration. The two were first married on August 12, 1944 in Price, Utah, but have lived in Murray for the past 40 years. He is now retired from employment at the Salt Lake City Water Department.
