Taylorsville and Granger battled through two wrestltough days of near non-sto- p ing before the Warriors were able to vicemerge with a 12 point, tory over the Lancers in the annual Granite District meet held Friday and Saturday at Skyline high. Taylorsville had five individual champions and Granger four. Kearns captured the third spot in the meet, edging out Cottonwood while host Skyline was fifth with 71 points. Granite, Olympus and Cyprus followed in that order. Outstanding wrestler honors went Warrior 132 pounder Mike McLalachian in the lower weights, while Grangers Dave Marsh, 155, and Skylines Jason Hess, unlimited, tied for the award in the upper weights. Following along by weight categories, Dave Trujillo got Granger off to a good start by defeating Taylorsvilles Mike Gonzales at 98 pounds. Chris Luck of Skyline was third, David Cook of Granite fourth, and Brandon King of Kearns fifth. Taylorsville got its first individual champion at 105, Steve Bascom winning over Gaven Barrows of Cottonwood. Jerry Johnson, Granger, was third; Mike Carlson, Kearns, fourth; Tim Winklekotter, Granite, fifth; Shane Sanders, Cyprus, sixth. The Warriors won again at 112 pounds, Tracy Sudoko beating out Kearns Dee Richins. Terrol Payne, Granger, got third; Ed Esplin, Cottonwood, fourth; Mike Orr, Skyline, fifth; Nick Dyches, Cyprus, sixth. Granger broke back into the first place spot at 119 with Jason Mecham winning out over Howard Peet of Taylorsville. In third was Just Sturzenneger of Kearns followed by Bret Sieverts, Skyline; Greg Carrol, Cottonwood; and John Terry, Olympus. But, in the first of three straight wins, Taylorsville gained the top spot at 126, Ryan Lightfoot beating Granites David Reyes. Third went to Mike Murdock, Cottonwood; 36-2- fourth to Boyd Eastman, Kearns; fifth to Greg Wright, Olympus; and sixth to Matt Torres, Granger. Kearns went home with a championship, Danny Spies beating out Grangers Phil Wagner at 185 pounds. Sego won over Joe Vara of Olympus with Jeff Johnson, Kearns; Kunz, Taylorsville; Newel Jensen, Cottonwood; and Chris Hall, Granite, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. Marsh beat Taylorsvilles Scott Jasmer at 155. West Jordan led through much of the first half, holding at 13-- advantage after one period of play and missing some blockouts on the boards and committing a couple of turnovers at very bad times. Kearns shot well from the line, but only 10x13 compared to the Falcons 19x28. Both teams had an equal number fo field goals, although Clearfield hit six to four for the Cougars.
