Show vv WW i j v i V. i I t t I THE GREEN SHEET 7 - I Thursday, December 18, 1986 As We See It 'Three Amigos ' Consistentently Delivers Laughs by Msirk Cartwright & Kelli Lideil Green Sheet Entertainment Critics SEEN ON THE SCREEN DEPT: Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short are three actors who, having been fired by their studio after their films have gone from hits to bombs, decide to take the show on the road in Three Amigos, a comedy that consistently delivers the laughs and is currently playing at Mann Theatres. No sooner are the three actors fired and literally thrown off the studio lot in their underwear than they receive a telegram (heavily edited) offering them a large sum of money to come to a small village in Mexico to put on a show, or so they think. What our intrepid film heroes dont know is that they are supposed to go there and run a s group of out of town. The script by Steve Martin, Randy Newman and Lome Michaels (the father of Saturday Night Live) is, to be sure, somewhat slapstick and does leave a few minor holes, but the entire theme of the film is one of fun. Obviously some of the high brow critics who demand a message in everything they see arent going to like this one, but director John Landis has made it quite clear that we should just ride along with Three Amigos for the fun of it and theres plenty of fun here. ban-dito- Those of you who are looking for an Eddie Murphy movie in the style of Beverly Hills Cop or 48 Hrs. are going to be sincerely disappointed with The Golden Child. Murphy seems too hampered by the script and the Murphy-ismfor which he has become so famous, are too few and far between, making the audience wish hed stray from the script more often. We think that the trailers shown in the theaters during the summer were too misleading. What you expect as an Eddie Murphy comedy, isnt really, but take heart. Eddie is currently toiling before the cameras on the long awaited Beverly Hills Cop 2, which will bring us the Eddie we miss. s, YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING DEPT.: Would you believe that the Ayatollah Khomeini cant take a joke? Its true. Seems that Italys RAMs most popular comedy prodid a skit on gram, Fantistico, Irans wacky wonder which promptly brought forth an official protest from the Iranian embassy which found it to be extremely offensive, making fun of the religious leader of the Islamic revolution and making him look ridiculous. Ridiculous is better than some of the things we have heard him called. Personally, we think his turban is a might too tight. Emergency Food Outlet Is Added WEST VALLEY. Abbeys work is important, he explained, first because it suggests and desert places wilderness and redirects the preserving attention of Utahns and Americans to arid places previously consider ugly. The second reason the book is considered important, he pointed out, is that it offers a radical vision of what a national park could mean to an industrialized society, as well as presenting a rather different image of Utah to a nationwide audience. TIME DEPT.: Tis the season for parties and places to go and we cant think of a better way for private club memebers to party hearty than at Studebakers, where they are waiving the $1 member cover charge when a member comes in with a toy for the Marines Toys for Tots program. Aside from the congenial atmosphere, the dress code (casual, no jeans, or tennis shoes) and the terrific selection of Fifties and Sixties music, its nice to see that a private club is supporting a worthwhile project such as Toys for Tots so that a lot of kids will have a Christmas. If youre a party animal and go to private clubs, we suggest you go to Studebakers, look it over and please dont forget the toy. The Christmas buying season is now in progress, but while you are out shopping the house burglar may also be involved in a door to door shopping spree in your neighborhood, said Salt Lake Pete County Sheriff N.D. Hayward. There are several ways to minimize the risk of criminal activity, he said. Perhaps the best and least expensive is to lock doors and windows when leaving home. Our October 1986 crime statistics show that 38 percent of reported burglaries involved entry into home and businesses through unlocked the home, the sheriff said. Anyone who observes suspicious persons and activities is asked to 5 call the Sheriffs Office at with a complete description of who is involved and what is happening. Please remember that crime never takes a holiday. By exercising these tips and your own good judgement, you can give yourself, and your family, the gift of a safe and Sheriff happy holiday season, Hayward concluded. Hayward said. Commonly, a criminal attempting entry into a home is an opportunist and if denied opportunity he will probably go elsewhere. Step one is to ensure doors and windows remain locked. Step two is to participate in Neighborhood Watch and act as eyes and ears for the Sheriff's office, reporting suspicious persons and vehicles, he said.
