After last Wednesdays game with Midvale had to be scrubbed, Granite gained a split in its two remaining American Legion contests, drubbing East Friday night then falling to Bingham 5 Monday. According to Granite coach Jackson Ewing, a final decision on whether or not the Midvale game will be rescheduled is still up in the air. Midvale ended up shorthanded after one of its players was injured in motorcycle accident on his way to the ball park. Upcoming games that are definite include Granite at Highland today (Thursday), Granger at Granite on Monday and Granite at Kearns (Winski Field) on Wednesday, July 23. The first two games will sstart at 6p.m. the third atSp.m. V18-1- 0 Monday Hathaway. Brightons score was doubled home by Randy Wilstead. Cyprus then added a run in the second when Lohmyer came home on a passed ball. Brighton notted the scored with two runs in the bottom of the third on a single by Devin Kunz and a sacrifice by Dean Thompson. Brighton then came up with three runs in the fifth on doubles by Kunz and Thompson and a single by Jay Chamberlain. Cyprus last threat netted a run in the sixth when Robbs singled in Raby. Going the distance on the mound for Brighton was Craig Saxton, who struck out eight. Both teams had seven hits and neither committed an error. 11-- Bingham 11, Granite 5 Bingham picked up four runs in the top half of the opening inning, Rob Martin and Brad Orr had RBIs on a triple and a double and Dave double. Savage adding a two-ru- n Granite answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a single by Brian Bingham. Martin and Orr notched RBI singles in the third and an error added a third Bingham run. Granite again got one run, scoring on a Steve Davis basehit. After Bingham had posted two more runs in the fourth, while Granite finished its scoring in the fifth with three runs, as Eric Richards and Kyle Marchant posted RBI singles. Bingham wrapped it up with a run in each of the sixth and seventh. Granite 18, East 10 Runs were scored in bunches by both teams. Granite got three in the top of the second on a double by Richards, wild pitches, passed balls and three walks. After adding a run in the third, East tied with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Granite broke the deadlock with a run in the fourth then posted seven in the fifth, Travis Meyerhoffer and Dave Davis had RBI singles with two walks, a hit batter, errors and a passed ball helping score the rest. East got a run in the fifth then cut with five runs in the the lead to sixth. But Granite stretched the game out of reach with six runs in the top of the seventh, Meyerhoffer homer and Tony belting a three-ru- n Jimenez and Bingham adding RBI singles. 12-1- 0 Cyprus Slates Grid Clinic MAGNA. New Cyprus high football coach Jerry Simonson will be conducting an open football clinic beginning tomorrow (Friday) at 8 a.m. for junior and seniors and Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. for incoming sophomores. According to coach Simonson, the clinic will concern itself with conditioning, basic skills and football fundamentals. Sessions will continue a.m. for varsity aged weekdays players and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for sophomores through Aug. 15 (except July 24 and 25). The cost is $20 per person. Registrations will be taken on the first day of the program. In the third, two walks and singles by Peterson and Troy Kehoe brought in the final Kearns run. n Holladay Gains Split In Legion Play EAST MILLCREEK. In perhaps its roughest outing of the American Legion season, the crew from Holla-dawas battered by Skyline last Wednesday. The team was to play SouthWest on Monday, but SouthWest was forced to forfiet. Hoping that the Skyline game was just a momentary lapse, Holladay coach Mark Holsten sends his charges against Cottonwood in a home game on Friday then travels to Jordan on Monday and Midvale on Wednesday. The first two games are set for 6 p.m. with the Midvale contest slated for 7;30 p.m. y 13-- 4 Skyline 13, Holladay 4 Skyline got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a four run burst then added three in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the seventh. Holladay scored twice in each of the fourth and fifth innings, both times on two-ru- n homers. Gary Ogden hit the fourth inning round triper and Tim Hale belted the ball over the fence in the fifth. Skyline had 15 hits to just four by Holladay. Holladay also hurt itself with six errors, while Skyline was not credited with a misque in the field. |
